The Harrier looked like a good buy! I worked with a guy who bought a brand new one - he loved it!

Quite a nice recap of the Escort Special editions. I think my favourite has to be the Harrier, as I always liked the 1300 and 1600 sport more than the RS2000 for looks to be honest, so I do like this one, however, they are all nice cars really.

The late 70s and early 80s were a great era for special edition Ford's. All were a mish mash of Popular, L, GL and Ghia parts on one model together with an unique bodyside stripe at an affordable price. The Escort Harrier though is off the scale and is in the same category as those very expensive then and now Escort RS models. It should be noted though at the time, these special editions were specifically marketed to draw private punters into the showroom rather than fleet sales of the standard range of Popular, L, GL and Ghia models.

Mk2 escort was my first car after passing test, payed £300 pounds for it, if only I could of seen the future and I would of kept all my Old Ford’s

Being a hatchback fan I'd have to go for the Escort Firefly. Again, a model we didn't get in Australia. Of course, we did get the seventies rear wheel drive Escorts.

As a child I liked limited editions. I think that they were good market research. They tested out the popularity of certain items of equipment / presentation and combinations of equipment /presentation.

A special edition I recall was one our neighbour bought new. The Escort MK4 Eclipse. His was in blue but I recall seeing a burgandy one also. I thought it was quite a sporty looking car but little did I realise it was a humble 1.3 just tarted up. Anyway thanks again for sharing your brochures and I look forward to seeing more . I hope the car is getting repaired also .

You could always tell when Ford was changing its models. Out would come all the special editions. Would have liked a Cortina Crusader myself.

Yea I liked the Crusader also

Ford Escort MK4 Eclipse (1989-90) special edition in blue. Looked somewhat like a five-door XR3i.

The Goldcrest is the best I think. Distinctive, tastefully done and a worthwhile upgrade over the L. I can understand why the Harrier has iconic status in the Escort universe but sporty boy racer-ish cars are not really my thing. Mk2 Escort buyers got a good deal in '79/'80 and the car does have more character than the admittedly far more modern and capable Mk3.
