What happens when you tell a bunch of car designers to go build a motorcycle? Well, this. The Honda PC800 Pacific Coast. Overlooked genius or just another Failblog entry?

Back in the eighties, I tried the Pacific Coast when released. And I liked it a lot. Except two major things : 1 Body panels are very fragile (I'm very surprised you found one with all panels and I'm sure they are heavily repaired ) 2 This bike is unable to ride up a sidewalk without scraping the bottom, even less than a sport car. (see n°1 for result)

Definitely a smooth move, but easier than you'd think. DPs use a focus wheel with a 'whiteboard' on the side so you can set your marks for pulling or pushing focus. Once you set your two marks for Ryan and the Bridge, you just turn the focus wheel to the mark for the Bridge and then back to the mark for Ryan. Pretty clever, really.

Back around 1991 I sold motorcycles briefly. Honda offered a huge bonus to the salesperson who moved a PC800. It was a practical motorcycle, but it said “I AM my father’s Oldsmobile”. Also, the DN-1 was nicknamed Do Not Order One in some dealer circles.

Ha! This was my very first motorcycle. I didn't even intend to buy it. I went to the Honda dealer to get my lawnmower blade sharpened. I saw the bike and it was the best new deal on the showroom floor. Honda had discounted the last units by $2,000! I didn't even have a license yet. The dealership delivered it to my home while I signed up for the MSF course. My sportsbike loving friends laughed at my "scooter", but with nearly 700 pounds of weight, an 800 cc v-twin, 5-speed tranny with clutch and shaft drive, it was the real thing. Really comfy for the interstate. Loved the trunk. Learned some new things in this video 24 years later! Didn't know the trunk had a drain plug! And didn't know about the pivoting brakes/suspension feature! And yes, my eyes were drawn to the 2 mentioned successors to the PC800 mentioned in this video too!

I had a PC-800, and the only bike I regret no longer owning. I found it underpowered when my wife was on back. I should have kept it, and gotten something else. Loved the trunk. LOVED the self-cancelling turn signals. The hydraulic lifters made it so quiet. The closest I've come - you didn't mention - is my current 2014 CTX-700D - the one with the true six speed dual clutch automatic transmission.

My dad's father had one, and my dad bought one a few years later. They were fantastic machines, extremely reliable, and so quiet my dad ended up tricking a grizzled HD biker into thinking it was electric. And yes, it basically was a car on two wheels. It only lacked two things: rider backrest (which could be easily solved with a Givi box) and weather protection for the feet (everywhere else on your body would stay dry).

Hey, the remote idle adjuster at 3:42 is identical to the one on my '94 ST1100! I bought the bike in 2009. I didn't realize that knobby thing next to the gas cap was an idle adjuster until 2014. Just like with the PC, Honda got the wrenching down to a minimum on the ST1100. In 12 years and 40,000 miles the only problems have been hot fuel pump seizure syndrome (HFPSS), which required a new fuel pump and the motor-cooling fan switch. And tires. It loves tires. Lots of tires.

I lusted after a PC800 back in the early 90s as soon as I saw one in the dealer showroom. It was beyond my budget at the time. After many years I progressed through quite a few bikes and ended up going through a succession of GoldWing models (1200/ 1500/ and 1800). After riding those, I realized I should have bought the PC800 back in the day. If it was half as good as the 'Wings, I would have had a blast. The GW1800 was the BEST motorcycle I ever rode, period.

For a mechanic it’s time consuming to get to any problems , although electrical components are protected from moisture heat is an issue , also , much of the rubber hoses and vacuum lines become brittle over time .

This boy is not too much chunkier than some of the best maxi scooters like the tmax and the ak. And they're very filter-able and comfortable. And powerful.

I have four motorcycles, but a local guy just put his perfect 1998 red PC with 1,192 miles on sale for $4,500. Your video was informative, but I would like to know how it handles in the curves…ground clearance, ect.

Damn, I miss my PC800. Was a pleasure to own it. Trunk was game changer for me. This bike replaced my car for at least 6 months in a year.

I love it! But I never had one. I missed the automatic gearbox. And so I waited for the Burgman 650, which I rode for almost 10 years. I love the PC800 for beeing the most consisted planked bike at a time, when Kawa designed the Zephyr and naked bikes start to conquer the western world for decades...

in my opinion people who want to ride motorcycles want that connected feel (coming from a state where you cant ride 8 months out of the year) if you take all of the connectivity and feed back out of a bike then you might as well buy a car. for most of the united states and even Canada two wheels are seen as pleasure vehicles so most riders want that rough and free feeling

I do got to say your channel is bad for my wallet. I seen this video roughly 3 weeks ago. Decided I absolutely needed one of these. Found a black and silver two-tone 1995 Honda Pacific Coast out of New Orleans. Went 6 hours one way to go get that bike. Spent the last couple weeks putting new wheel bearings, brakes, tires, fix gas leaks, replace windshield, and finally I'm riding it. I absolutely love this bike and wish like hell Honda would bring something like it back. It's everything a goldwing is not. Smaller, lighter, much more in town friendly while still being very comfortable on the highway. I don't know if they are all this way but this is the very first motorcycle out of roughly 40 different bikes that I've owned, that the speedometer is dead nuts accurate. So that's kind of cool. Got it up to 123 mph on flat ground with no wind and a 6-in taller windshield than OEM. I'm 6'5 230 lb. I would say for an 800 cc v-twin that is kind of impressive. If anyone here has ever ridden a mid-90s 1100 Honda Shadow. That's about the riding experience you get as far as acceleration goes. As for handling it is far superior to any other Honda V-Twin I have ever ridden.
