This was a favourite, I think because it’s so bloody relatable. When I was in high school, the costumes were honestly the highlight of the swimming carnival. You could almost guarantee that every single year without fail there would be a banana, a Kermit the frog, and that one friend group who were all in different houses and would come as Teletubbies. Not to mention the house captains in their little matching outfits complete with tutus (even the guys wore them). What a time 😂😂

I’m still in school myself so I still have many carnival yet to experience and wow has nothing changed this was a perfect description of my last swimming carnival the only thing you forgot was the team chants that were ridiculously long but there was always a competition to see who was the loudest. I was in green although all the colours had animal names mine was kangaroos.

In my Schools Aussie swimming carnivals, the things you sit on are separated for different house colours, and I was kinda sad cause I couldn't sit with my friends cause we ain't allowed to be sitting in other people house areas other than ours, yea, it sucked. Plus I have never came any place but last in the swimming carnivals, although I guess it's good enough that I participated. although I love to swim, I still don't like losing Everytime, but I'm pretty good at cross country though, anyway yea you can tell I'm a chatter box 😂

Bahaha when I was in year 6 my school decided to have 2 separate swimming carnivals, the kids who actually took it serious went to the aquatic centre and the rest of us went to the beach pool to have a "fun swimming carnival" 😂 my group of 6 friends went into a race together and I just missed out on 3rd place (the one time the teachers decided not to have 4th place ribbons) but I got one anyway because the teacher felt bad for me 😂

my house colours were blue and red so every year our theme was "australia" because no one had any originality. the go-to look was also the tutu and the massive glasses and the flower necklace (or a feather boa, always ended up with feathers in the pool and points deducted from our house score) but you could choose whether you wanted an aussie flag cape or some red/blue fairy wings instead. i only wore blue so i could be adopted by my friends' house for the day..

this year bc Vic was in lockdown, (AGAIN!) our swimming carnival got cancelled. So, the school decided to have a swimming carnival JUST for us year 7s. It went GREAT! (notice the sarcasm) also the year 12s have a dress up competition every year for the swimming carnival but bc it was cancelled, they got to dress up at the cross country carnival instead. Some of the year 12 girls dressed up as eashays lol

I honestly find carnivals really fun but the House Captains would sometimes do nothing or be in other races and leave it to the vice captains and sometime THEY would leave it to the other yr sixes. AKA I was the one trying to remember the house cheer ;-;

Also 90% of the students have paint striped on their face, 60% of which is not actual face paint and they start freaking out toward the end of the carnival when it won’t come off, and they walk up to you randomly with a really red face (like a rash) with blotchy green all over and ask if it’s noticeable. And they never learn. They just rock up to the next swimming carnival and do the exact same thing.

I was in every carnival at school- the swimming as you have explained is ACCURATE AS 🦆, You need to do one on the cross-country- it will 100% be the best 😂 (I was the one getting asked the swimming questions since I did SWIMMING LESSONS since I was like 4-) (or I was asked to do the freestyle or some form of swimming thing-) (like a relay)

Ah yes the house colours, When j was a small chap in primary school I was blue (and it was called Coombes) and it was the worst team heh.. THEN high school came and now it was yellow (wattle) and WE. WERE. POWERFUL, we one almost every carnival. It was nice :)

Soooo as an exchange student in Australia within the first week they hosted a swimming carnival YAY. Since I went to training "regularly" back at home my mum and her best friend (who was my host mum in Australia) convinced me to participate because they apparently had no idea how teenagers work:3 Not having made any friends yet and having no clue wtf to expect, I went in. Obviously everyone was better than me (bc - hello mum! - twice a month is NOT considered training in this country) and those weird games?? What's the point and what were the rules??? I somehow managed to pass the bucket on the right way without getting the instructions though... All in all, it was embarassing and definitley shaped my inner introvert, but at least I got this whole Harry Potter house system experience right^^

From what I remember our swimming carnivals were in a nice swimming centre. Also you forgot the chants! LETS GO RED LETS GO 👏🏻👏🏻. The chants were always the same too no matter if it was swimming or sports. My school did themes for house costumes too, pirates, fairies, disco etc etc i think the themes always fit the colour too and possibly started with the same letter as the house name was in terms of my school if I remember correctly

The school swimming Carnival I had this year probably 12 of the year 10 or 11 boys dressed up at Steve Irwin and there was like another 10 guys dressed up as cheerleaders and they were actually wearing bras it was fucking hilarious also the Steve Irwin crew had their own swimming race

We had one guy take the banana cosplay to the next level. he dessed up in a skin tight yellow suit, and walked around with a shoebox over his crotch with the sign saying "look at my banana". He felt the wrath of the over zealous vice principal for that, not that he cared, everyone LOVED it.
