The PS1 version might have been a bit dissapointing, but the PC version is GOATED to me. Even 24 years later the handling in the PC version feels different and very difficult to control sometimes, and when you combine that with the upgrade and damage system you can see that it was pretty damn realistic for a 2000 game, still love the evolution and the factory driver mode to this day
@BlooTeg2 күн бұрын

@@BlooTeg Idk about the PS1 version, but the PC version has a pretty realistic and annoying damage system, you can feel the steering of the car pushing to one side if you damage the front and the loss of power once the drivetrain is damaged, and the cost to repair it only gets more expensive the further you go in Evolution mode, can be a real pain in the ass once you get to the modern era xd

Soundtrack on PC was done by a guy called Morphadron and someone else called Captain Ginger. I suspect PS1 could have at least one Morphadron track that wasn’t in the PC version. Another thing worth checking is really old stock music. A lot of people found out music from a game called Hot Wheels Mechanix was stock music, so it’s worth having a look.

Im glad you get to review need for speed porsche unleash. This was my very first need for speed game i played on my ps1 when i was 8 years old. I didn't understand glitches and bugs that time that i just shrug it off and just enjoyed the game. I didn't even know what i'm doing other than crashing my cars in every map, picking the fastest car and driving at high speed up hill just to see my car jump and my favorite part at the europe map (france or germany i think, i barely remember but its a country side map), there are bumpy grounds on the side of the tracks and i would drive my car there just to watch my car flipping randomly because i find it so funny ahahah. I did encounter some game breaking glitches in this game, like going to the opposite direction just to collide my car with another npc car and watch my car backflipping or flying out of the map that I broke the game. The physics in this game is so wonky that my 8 year old self would just laugh and find it cool for some reason.🤣🤣good old days

It's cool to see these old Need for Speed games. I was around since the very beginning, as the first video game I ever owned was The Need for Speed I, a gift from my father. I still have it, along with the followups, all for PC since I didn't have a console growing up. You are correct in that the original games were vastly different. The first game was developed in coordination with Road & Track magazine to try and get a very realistic driving experience by using telemetry data they recorded from the actual cars and a mix of circuit and point-to-point races with some having traffic and police chases in a variety of exotic locations. The Need for Speed II was like a more advanced version of that which focused on concept cars with some real-life supercars thrown in, more exotic locations (even space!), but eliminated the point-to-point races and police chases. The sound was epic, with amazing ambient sounds, good effects, and good music. The Need for Speed III - Hot Pursuit went a very different route by bringing in very arcade-like handling where you didn't really have to brake for turns, bringing back police chases, and allowing you to play as the police, and it kept up a wide variety of locations and introduced nighttime racing. The Need for Speed IV - High Stakes was an evolution of that which introduced damage, car customization, and a career mode. This is also the king of the modding scene with thousands of user-made cars and hundreds if not a thousand tracks as well covering places all over the world. The best car mods of all were made by a modder called Ryuji Kainoh. His cars looked and felt like developer-quality ones, so they matched the ones in the game, and he did over a hundred. They were all relevant too, using models from the same era. I still have them all saved on a CD somewhere. My theory is that he worked on the modelling in the game and added a bunch of cars he wished they'd been able to put in. The Need for Speed V - Porsche Unleashed, is, of course, the one you're reviewing now. It was designed to bring back less arcade-like handling and new features like opening parts and multiple pathways on a circuit, but was largely derided for having just one manufacturer. People wanted to race lots of different brands, like Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati, Lotus, and the like, not just Porsches. It was the first NFS game I didn't buy, and that was the main reason. On a side note, another game, Motor City Online, was heavily based on Porsche Unleashed. It was focused on racing hot rods and muscle cars on similar tracks, and was one of the first online-only games, focused on racing against other players all the time. When they shut down the server, the game stopped working. A lot of people were mad about that, so they eventually came up with a way to trick it into thinking it was connecting to the server so they could still play. The Need for Speed VI - Hot Pursuit II was a good blend of the previous games, with handling similar to Porsche Unleashed that was between simulation and arcade, bringing back other manufacturers, and upping the crazy police chases, but elminating car customization and time of day changes. Then The Need for Speed VII - Underground came out, and I kind of lost interest in it. The Need for Speed series up to this point had always been about racing exotic cars in exotic locations, then switched over to racing tuner cars that you customized in a city at night. No more supercars, no more racing along beaches, mountains, jungles, and deserts, so it was a no-go for me. It felt like it should have been a Midnight Club game, not a Need for Speed game.
@BlooTeg2 күн бұрын
Perfectly said! I still never even touched Motor City Online, if I'm not mistaken, people made custom servers for it so I could probably play it for a video one day. Also, being someone who grew up in the 2000s, it's so weird to me that so many people believe NFS 1 and 2 were "The real NFS games" just like people believe Underground/Most Wanted were "The Real Ones"... I wonder if in the future people will look back and believe that Unbound was the real NFS game haha

NFS5 on PS1 was my first NFS back in my childhood. I'd say, it's still one of my favorite NFS games to this day (after perhaps Prostreet and UG2). I 100%'ed this game back in the day (not on the first try though). I don't remember any significant problems with collisions. I guess, you just adjust to the physics with time?.. Some may dislike old games because of their janky moments (Sonic Heroes comes to mind lol), but if you really want, you can adjust to it and not have that many problems. The music is also quite good, I agree. I wasn't aware of the multiplayer modes with bots until I saw them in the video :D I think, the closed-circuit races with racing cars were just harder, perhaps because of much faster cars. But if I remember correctly, they have pretty good prizes and can be used to farm money. (I personally used the 550 race to grind some on my latest playthrough) The weird thing, i tried to re-complete the game not that long ago on Duckstation, and opponents on some races were just unbeatable. On a particular trophy race a NPC driver was just... faster than me, and if I let him drive past me, I no longer can win no matter what.

This is definitely one of the most unique NFS games, even after playing Most Wanted, Carbon, and some of their mods, the free driving mode in this game is unmatched in atmosphere and simplicity. Go over 80 km/h? Cop chase. Go over 250 km/h? Also cop chase, but they fine you about a thousand dollars after you inevitably total your 917 Short Tail into a lamppost. Then you just go on your merry way doing the same damn thing again. In the other games, driving around felt too involved with heat levels, speed breakers and spike strips that also happen to total your transmission systems. When just having a good time doing barrel rolls this game is definitely the more arcade choice

The menu music worked by remixing different bits of audio, like 3 or 4 different little loops, that when put together, repeated sometimes, will make the song. I once ripped the audio and remade one of them, it was basically like, "audio 1"(x2) → "audio 2" → "audio 1" → "audio 3", then back. The songs can be found unofficially on KZbin. Hey, if they aren't offering them officially, then it shouldn't be wrong to do that, right? For the game, the only thing (outside of bugs) I think is unfortunate is how the car's headlights don't work. Some tracks are set at night and you can't see anything. You can see the road, without even having brightness that high, but it's odd. One would think they would not have big sections of track at night without illumination, like the french riviera at 7:27. It's annoying enough, that I know you're on the second race of the Classic Era Class 2 Championship.. it kinda sticks with you. But, seriously, piss off "ReDriver 2", I want "ReNeed For Speed Porsche Unleashed PS1", but with working headlights, more cars on track, and the open maps having all roads available (since it would be too heavy on PS1 to have the whole maps at once, free roam is a smaller map). More realistically for what they could've done back then, just, like, maybe a practice mode where you could pick any of the closed-off street circuits and any car and just drive there.

>Video about Porsche Unleashed titled 'The WEIRDEST Need for Speed EVER!' >Doesn't play the PC version The PC version lives rent free in my head because of the Normandie track - you start off in the middle of the forest, drive through ancient ruins and a graveyard, then enter a weirdcore farmland before making it to the farmstead proper, where living mannequin farmers move like animatronics. Yes really. It's such a weird, weird track and I've never forgotten it.

Jesus Christ! I only played the game on PC and my eyes are bleeding and my brain is short-circuiting from what I see from the console version. What an abomination that should be burned and forgotten. The PC version was a masterpiece and a joy for the soul to play over and over again.

I’ve seen kuruhs play this and he said that the pc version of this game is better since he played both, until then, I didn’t know this game was on console, I played a little of this game as a kid, and I didn’t understand the mechanics because I was a little kid, plus I didn’t know it has customization either, since I’m older, I want to play it, but I want to play the pc version

It's a better game on PC than PS1 tho PS1 had unique songs that aren't on PC, ofc this PS1 version is developed by the same people who gave us Test Drive Unlimited 1 & 2. They also worked on the V-Rally games

Porsche Unleashed always confused me. How much did Porsche pay to get this made? I am sure Ferrari or Lamborghini or even Ford would have made more sense.
@HyperVanilo2 күн бұрын
Keep in mind that EA owned the Porsche license, back then other studios can't put any Porsche car in their game, they used the tuner brand RUF instead
@BlooTeg2 күн бұрын
honestly it was always weird to me that it only had one car brand, which is not what I ever expected from NFS

@@BlooTeg Let's just say it's their way of flexing that they owned Porsche
@yourpststudios2 күн бұрын
@@HyperVanilo I remember that! Test Drive Unlimited had to use all RUF cars and I always thought that was weird at the time because I was never a Porsche person.
