I love that Egwene stood on business. she said she would kill her and she did.
@johnlloyddy70167 ай бұрын
Yeah, totally out of character for Egwene. In the books, Renna lived after this incident and later became a fugitive. She was taken as a hostage by Mat along with Tuon when they escaped Ebou Dar to join Valan Luca's Menagerie, that is, until Mat's men killed her with an arrow while she was trying to escape.
@dyrtybarstud52617 ай бұрын
The books scene and structure of this is far, far more brutal and far more feminine. Egwene leaves her alive knowing that Renne has to live with the fact that she is what she despises most. Sadly, the series loses the distinct femininity of the female leads and the exploration of the power that women can exert in that and any other worlds. One of the great shining lights of WoT is the exploration of how and why both men and women gather and use power and, sadly, this is horribly diluted or destroyed in the series.

I think the reason Egwene was able to touch and use the a'dam on Renna was referenced earlier on in the series. Nyneve and Elaine were experimenting with the a'dam with that one channler who was a healer. When Nyneve channeled and focused on the collar, she made a comment that it needed to be healed. So, in essence, Egwnere using the a'dam to collar Renna could not be viewed as an act of violence, but rather an act of healing. She essentially found a loophole because putting a collar on a woman who can channel, though it constitutes enslavement, is technically "healing" them. So even if Egwenes intention was to turn the tables on Renna and then harm her, the initial act of placing it on her could be considered more an act of healing rather than violence. That being sent, I did hope the Egwene would light Renna on fire or something. Sher deserved a much more grisly demise than this.

Idk, immolation would have been too quick a death in my opinion. At least with this she got to die slow enough for egwene to enjoy it. Egwene got her to the point of desperation where she did the one she would never do under normal circumstances, releasing her from the A'dam, and it didn't matter cause egwene was never gonna let her live. Then she got her to point of begging to be spared only to respond with nothing but a death glare as she slowly strangled the life from her. Then finally she got her to the point of utter despair, the point where she knew that was it, right before she died, the point where she knew she never gonna survive this and possibly began regretting ever meeting egwene. Damn that got a bit dark.😅 Anyway, my point is that Egwene basically condensed the weeks(months?) of torture Renna put her through and dished it out to her in a few short minutes and nothing is better that in my opinion. To watch your oppressor crumble under the very same pain they enjoyed putting you through. Ain't nothing sweeter except letting then live to suffer even more. Her demise was perfect to me and good on Egwene for keeping her promise.

I dont feel like egwene should have been able to touch the collar but I get why they did it for the show. In the book the A'dam was sooo much more intuitive. Not only did Egwene have to choose not to use the pitcher to harm Renna, but she had to convince herself that she would NEVER EVER do it in order to touch the pitcher which took several days. Even though she didnt intend to harm herself, she could not touch a knife that her friend tried to let her hold. Since she saw this as something to *use on Renna* I don't think it should have worked but tv is always different.

@@cernstormrunner7263 Spoilers So in the book Egwene is rescued by her friends who remove the collar (there is no possible way for her to escape herself) and when they are found by Renna about to escape, they put it on her. After a little revenge pain from Egwene, they leave Renna there to be discovered and found in shame. Turns out Renna and the other captured Suldam are released instead of made to be damane, as they dont want the secret to be out. Later in the books Renna is shot in the back with an arrow and I believe falls into a river or something.

@@LordMaskin I can somewhat agree with that. I've seen others defend this scene and be, "well, Egwene wasn't thinking to harm her Sul'dam in the moment just trap her". Again, somewhat weak/somewhat fair reasoning but to satisfy the audience there should've an additional scene where Egwene found out to suspend the effects of the collar for 5 seconds (or enough time to get this moment). Let's say if she's already in pain the collar will take that as her Sul'dam punishing her. So, if Egwene stab herself the same moment putting the collar on Renne. Another example of Rafe Jenkins' fanfiction messing up a masterpiece. This doesn't happen in the books. At all. In the books, EVERYTHING is perfectly set up. Nynaeve and Elayne capture a sul'dam, Sera, and collar her, despite Min saying it doesn't work. Nynaeve discovers it does work. The original plan was for Nynaeve to put the collar on Elayne, get the info they need from Sera about the interior of the house where Egwene is held. Nynaeve changes this upon realizing what the 'a'dam does, and what a filthy thing it is. Change of plans: Sera is now the damane, Nynaeve dresses up as a sul'dam, no stupid tattoos in the book, and while Rand is clashing with Turak, they go to rescue Egwene, who has figured out what is happening with the sul'dam and damane. Egwene's explanation makes FAR more sense than the drivel Jenkins wrote: Damane are the girls who are naturally gifted, like Nynaeve, Egwene and Elayne. Sul'dam are the girls who can be taught to channel. At this point, Renna, yes, in the books it is spelled R-e-n-n-a, ending in an "a", waltzes in, Egwene snaps the a'dam on Renna, and tortures her with it, finally relenting at the urging of the others and her own disgust. They leave Sera and Renna bound to the a'dam, and the kettle of fish that this will cause, and then depart, with Sera and Renna still having future roles and parts to play. Jenkins' unnecessary changes to the novels have all been unqualified disasters, creating chain reaction disasters. The scene as portrayed here makes ZERO sense, and ZERO logic, even in the rules Jenkins sets for his verision. This is just sad what is being done to such a great work.

@@abcdefbcdefg8352 Reinforcing traditional beauty standards? If anything, you're far wrong on the fact that the actors are unattractive because Ayoola Smart is one of the most beautiful women in the cast besides Nynaeve's actress and the fact that they kept her natural features for the character makes a lot of sense given that they are likely adaptations to the climate of the region that she comes from. The people of the Aiel waste are supposed to be very tall, and have red hair, just like Rand. While in our world it would make more sense for Aviendha to look like her actress, in the WOT, the world was broken, and no people were in the regions their ancestors adapted to. I thought they had done Egwene's plot really well until this moment. They didn't even follow the show adam lore, there is no way Egwene wasn't thinking of hurting Renna in this scene and that she could kill her like that with pretty much no physical consequences. It also make it look like the other channelers simply didn't try hard enough to get out of it😕 the terrifying point of the adam is that it doesn't matter how strong of a channeler you are or how strong your will is, you just can't get out of it by yourself. This is going to hurt a future important plot point. Also it pretty much made all of the Elayne and Nynaeve scenes of studying the adam and capturing a suldam completely pointless.

They don't fumble helplessly with an arrow wound while Egwene solo's everything. Why are Nyneave and Elayne even in this scene? They are there to free Egwene. Also, Rand is the ONLY one who can stand a chance against Ishameal. Fact. Egwene cannot " hold him off " for 4 minutes just cuz she is mad!!!! OMG I AM MAD so facts don't work on me! Nyneave, one of the best (if not the) healers in the entire world, cannot heal an arrow wound.......... but Elayne (known for only being able to heal a bruised cheek) heals Rand's wound........... Rand's wound that he DID NOT GET FROM MAT. Also, Mat does not make his spear from tying a dagger to a stick. ffs............. Enjoyed Lan and Moiraine's beach scene but it did not happen. They were not even there. Hopper did not die here either. Also, the Horn scene is one of the top 10 in the entire series. It is simply amazing. The end of book 2 is epic. The show's was OK; but not a patch on the book. As I said. I enjoyed this sequence, it is entertaining. It's so far from accurate tho, its too bad. Book is SO MUCH BETTER.

Still a good scene, even though from what I’ve read in the comments isn’t what really happens in the book.

what little i've seen of the show (mostly first few episodes and then clips of later parts here on youtube) it doesn't look bad, but as usual the books are way better. there's only so much you can do with limited screen time, cuts have to be made and then changes to make the cuts work. It's nice they finally made a show after all these years, but yeah... read the books.

It's similar thematically, but Renna lives and is kept leashed at least for a while. I don't remember what ultimately happens to her. She and another one or two captured sul'dams who are aware that they are channellers are around in the story for a while. Egwene does free herself and collar Renna, IIRC through some kind of mental trick to be able to access her own a'dam. But you can't convey that kind of thing on screen, at least not without inventing some kind of annoying expository device to show how she reasons it out. Not so much a matter of time constraints as of format constraints. The issue as a whole is (probably) not going away. The Seanchan themselves are most definitely not done, and a particular "sul'dam" is going to play a huge role starting probably 2-3 seasons down the line, unless they decide for some unfathomable reason to change the character drastically. She's one of my favorite characters despite being objectively awful, and it's going to be interesting to see how people react to her.

@@BlueCyann no that's not how it goes. Nynaeve and Elayne captured a sul'dam and forced her into a collar so they could sneak to where Egwene was and free her. Renna then shows up and Egwene forces the collar on her and inflicts pain on her. Nynaeve ultimately decides on justice, of leaving the two sul'dam collared in the room to meet their fate when it's revealed sul'dam are women who can learn to channel while demane are the women born with the spark to channel Egwene doesn't free herself, she literally can't, that's why Nynaeve and Elayne are there, to save her but the show took away their purpose to break their established rules to give Egwene a girlboss moment that makes no sense

I loved the Books, watched 15 minutes of episode 1 and said NOPE. Im completely lost in this scene until I remember they said F the books. Audio books are just as Good. Im still stunned jeff bezos ruined my favorite book series.

After the abomination that was the first season, I knew I wasn't going to watch anything more of this show. I am glad that this clip confirms I'm not missing anything.

You are So Wrong. For a person who has not been corrupted by the the original book storyline. Cause I don't read Books ever. This scene is the best. I never liked Rand, I always felt Nynaeve was the True Dragon cause her powers shine like the RADIANT SUN. I loved this sense too.
