About The Wheel Of Time -- The Wheel of Time is one of the most popular and enduring fantasy series of all-time, with over 90 million books sold. Set in a sprawling, epic world where magic exists and only certain women are allowed to access it, the story follows Moiraine (Rosamund Pike), a member of the incredibly powerful all-female organization called the Aes Sedai, as she arrives in the small town of Two Rivers. There, she embarks on a dangerous, world-spanning journey with five young men and women, one of whom is prophesied to be the Dragon Reborn, who will either save or destroy humanity.

In the books Siuan spent her entire life and sacrificed everything she had to allow Rand to learn to channel and fully become the Dragon Reborn, and here in just one scene, everything is turned upside down, to say I'm perplexed is an understatement.

@@LucashhLima I like that. New theory: she knows the Tower's plan is insane, so she acts threatening in his general direction and makes a show of keeping him contained. I love this show, and because of that, I'm now reading the books. Every adaptation has fans angry and complaining that the adaptation isn't like the source material and I think if the adaptation of whatever it is, is growing the fan base of that particular show or book, then that's a win. I'm not that far into the books yet but so far I really like that also. I like them both. YOU CAN LIKE BOTH!

It's not that it's a bad series, it's the fact they changed so much without needing to. The books are long and convoluted, so there is a lot they can cut out without losing the story. Keep the main beats and lose the padding. One of the big problems with the books is that a lot of the multi-book arcs don't really add to the story and in a TV adaptation could be dealt with in one episode. I don't even mind them combining minor character arcs into one person. The problem is that some of the most important plot points in later books have been undermined by the changes they have made to the story.

I take this scene as she is more frustrated with the situation than him. Female channelers cannot teach male channelers and viceversa. They can use the one power to do same or similar things but in their craft of weaving its different. Also, male channelers go mad or die, he is supposed to save everyone and Siuan (in books and I think in the series if they don't change ecerything) tries to help him to achieve this but he has no one or nowhere to go and learn. Their hands are tied. So, of course, it would have been easier if he had been a girl.

@@agustinacaceres8672 The show actually makes Siuan show this really well. She's hard on him and frustrated because he knows no way to defend himself, but out in public (around other Aes Sedai) she has to appear as if she's doing what is in the interests of the Aes Sedai, aka caging him and taking advantage, or else the politics would probably dethrone her. @@masterkeep Again, this is about skill vs power. Even in the books, somebody who is much stronger than another channeler can shield them even if they're holding the power (and in the show, when Ishamael shields Moiraine, as he is MUCH stronger than her). Rand, in this instance, has almost no capability, let alone the comprehension, of what he can and cannot do, and his grasp on the power is weak. Siuan has decades of experience in this, and she knows exactly what it takes to shield somebody who is holding the power.

@chocopuddingcup83 Incorrect. In the books, it is almost always power over strength if the one is holding the one power. So much so that anytime it isn't by power, it appears to have been a mistake. It literally took two just to hold Logain with extreme effort on their parts even within the context of the show. Rand, the Dragon Reborn, its significantly more powerful than Logain. But this show just goes scene-by-scene with no regards to anything else that's been established because "cool scene" is apparently better than a good story. Rand was literally already channeling and she said "hehe, no actually" which... no. Cutting someone off while they're already touching the source is extremely hard, basically impossible to do by oneself, and sure as hell wouldn't be easy against the literal dragon. Egwene can heal someone from being Burnt Out because shes sad because whamen, Nieneve can heal an entire room without any training because whamen... but Rand, The Dragon Reborn, can't break a shield because that wouldn't be cool and girl boss and then gets shielded again later on by NPC ocean channelers at least two miles away on boats with no line of sight on him because the Battle In the Sky would be stupid and not girl boss I guess. To get into book spoilers (even though it is VERY clear the showrunners don't care about the books) both of the forsaken who die at the end of Eye of the World get resurrected by the dark one in new bodies, both having been men beforehand but one being a woman after. Despite this, the forsaken in question still channels Saidin rather than Saidar. So even if they sex changed him, the resulting woman would still be using the bad tainted make-you-go-crazy power.

@@Adanu191 Counterpoint, if the showrunners cared about the books they would be capable of straying away from a 1:1 adaptation without making it _suck_ The problem with this adaptation isn't just that it "isn't 1:1 from the books", it's that it only vaguely tries to get the initial setup right, fails at that, takes its broken setup off the rails through the entire middle portion and then finishes out the season with a realization of "oops we didn't set up any of the climactic events from the books but we really want them to happen anyway" and then shove in the end-of-book events with no regard for theme or implication. If they _cared,_ they would either change the payoff when they change the setup associated with it, or not go around changing the setups to begin with. They go out of their way to make a worse version of the story _for no reason._ Changes are not made to better fit the medium, just to fit the showrunner's whim. It. Shows.

My dad enjoyed the show because he never read the books. So I told him I would watch it with the mindset that I never had and even then I couldn't get it out of my head how bad all of this was. Where was Rand in the skies above Tarwin's Gap? Where was the pool of Sidin? The Green Man? Elane? Thom only showing up in White Bridge? WTF is all of these changes? Killing Loyal? (couldn't move on to season 2 so if he isn't really dead, good, but even still) and him being a pacifist? He was an amazing warrior! The ruined characters, they jumped the gun on things to add more sex and nudity. I could keep going on, but all of this was a big waste of my time to even humor my dad...
