It can be difficult to find original ones that are not just a re-telling from other places.

We have a slightly different version of that folk tale. It's defined to be an impossible creature, a rooster's egg fertilized by a snake/serpent. It's just called a basilisk in the tale. The villagers trapped it in a well, as they managed to kill it, the stench and the smell poisions the water and the people. I don't know how it ended, but it's probably just a variation of this we have in local folklore books.

There are so many variations of the same stories that its hard to tell where they originated.

Lovely video altogether! I really appreciate people who find it worthwhile to take a close look at the legends of yesteryear; partly because they are fascinating in their own right, and partly because I believe they may hold clues for those of us navigating through the current age in which we find ourselves. When we contemplate the magnitude of error that underpinned so many of the attitudes and prejudices that were once taken to be incontrovertible truth, we would also do well to contemplate the great areas of ignorance that imperil us by misleading the masses today. Also, who doesn't love a good cockatrice story? (apart from the bit about the innocent rooster being condemned to a fiery death, I mean.) Best of luck with your channel! --N

Interesting; this story reminds me of an experiments that we did for one of my Biology lab classes -- using chicken eggs!
