I had a pylorus preserving Whipple on 2 June 2015 for an adenocarcinoma in the head of my pancreas on 2 June 2015 at the Uni MD med center. It was 9 hours by Dr. H. Richard Alexander and his team. I did have chemo after. Still here and still clear.

This is my second time with cancer, 20 years ago my right kidney was removed due to a stage 3/4 tumor. I survived that ordeal and 20 years later it returned. This time much more severe. Waiting on my surgery date now.

@@jamestrawick3262 i’m doing better than ever. it’s crazy it took me a while to feel myself again probably a good 3 and a half months until i really started eating more now i’m stronger, healthier, and happier then ever. couldn’t be feeling better at 16 years old now

I am to have this procedure done to remove a cancerous tumor , I am worried due to the time in surgery and the way they show it is exactly where my tumor lies. I was was told surgery will be 8 hours. The section being removed worries me. I will have a 3 week stay in the hospital, my tumor went from 10c to a little under 3cc in about 10/11 months with Lenvima and Keytruda. I am waiting on surgery due to my A1Cs being to high to go into surgery. Waiting for A1Cs to drop to a safe level now.

Mine was in 2018, took a little over 6 hrs. I'm now in full remission and doing great...a lot of us are here with you! If you have a surgeon who has done many of these before, it should be no sweat. The way it was described to me by my surgeon was "it is the most 'major' minor surgery there is", meaning it is still technically minor surgery. And the fact that the tumor is right where the surgery occurs is precisely the point, If the tumor was in the tail instead of the head, you would not have the option for this potentially life saving surgery. Look at it as a positive! Good luck to you!!

I have heard this is a pretty heavy duty surgery. Now I see why! Stage 3 pancreatic cancer here. Had 3 weeks daily radiation after 3 attempts at chemo. Ended up in the hospital after every chemo for over a week. Radiation seemed to stop the cancer in its tracks and now they want to talk surgery. Yikes!

It turns your life upside down. I had it done February and I'm still recovering. I lost 30 pounds but I had leeway there. All my tissue came back negative. I'm on insulin now. I still have the tail of the pancreas left so it's providing some insulin. Good luck man.

@@jeffharder8706 How are you doing now? My dad got diagnosed today but I think it isn't stage 4. Maybe stage 2B or stage 3. He might get an operation. He is 57 years old now. Is it ok if I ask how much longer the doctors give you?

@@abjectt5440 How are you doing? Will you make it? :( My dad got an infection of his pancreatic tail and now today he got diagnosed with pancreas cancer, but it didn't spread to his lungs apparently so it probably isn't stage 4.

@@engin579 I’m actually doing pretty good! I had radiation last Feb. tumor shrank a little. Right now we are just monitoring it. No chemo or intervention sine Feb. I go in for new scans next month. Not sure what we’ll do since chemo didn’t really work so hot the last 3 times we tried…Dr hasn’t really given me a timeline. Just the same, I’ve taken steps to have all my affairs in order for when that day eventually comes. I’ll ask for an estimated timeframe when I see my Dr after the new scans
