Repairing busted diffs on the trail is my idea of a nightmare 🤬 Keeping parts clean is almost impossible and diffs take a lot of setting up to get a good contact pattern, which has to be compromised under those conditions, causing repeat damage further along the trail. Wouldn't the solution to a busted front ring gear to just take it out of 4WD? Of course, then you can't use low range, but having it in 4low without the front in gear would put a lot of strain on the rear drivetrain, which you then risk breaking, and then you're FORCED to drag it behind another vehicle. I'd say just put it in 2WD and use the winch when an obstacle needs passed.
@TheStoryTillNow4 жыл бұрын
That's exactly what we did. We had to open up the dif to find what was causing the sounds before that though.

Next time you or someone does a rear driveshaft, just drop the shaft and drive out in front wheel drive. Feels a little strange and doesn't like it if you try to accelerate through a turn on pavement m but it will get you off the trail and then some. Drove my jeep in front wheel drive for a few days until I had the time to fix it.

I've done this before in my military vehicles when I was in the Army. It works great. At least a FWD jeep is better and safer than a RWD one!
