Great episode guys. Just to clear things up a .22 round is one of the smallest available on the market, and certainly the smallest round which is used to hunt. When you see Olympic shooters etc with the fancy looking rifles that are super quiet and not much recoil, those are also .22s. Great for target shooting. Don’t sound anything like a regular gunshot. More like a loud whip cracking and that’s without the suppressor. Kids can even handle them I have shooting these since I was about 8 or 9 (I live in the countryside). However they are definitely a deadly round, especially from a headshot. Hitmen often use .22 pistols because they are quiet and discreet. They also don’t do too much external damage and the bullet is likely not to exit.

In true crime we always, always talk about how "people react to grief differently" so I'm interested in hearing everyone's experiences. Hysterical gasping crying, screaming, anger? I was very close to my granddad, when he died at 82 and I was 19 I was incredibly rude to everyone at the funeral. I didn't make small talk, I didn't smile, I refused to engage and I left early. I didnt care about being polite, I was upset. Now I'm 30 I know you have to smile and nod and be polite etc, but at that age I let grief consume me.

My grandad was my most favourite person ever, and when he died….. I didn’t give a crap about anyone else’s grief. I was inconsolable, and people telling me that he had “a good innings” got a death stare so real, I’m surprised they didn’t just burn to ash on the spot. I was not a kind human during that time. I think I’d be the same now. I am incredibly selfish in my grief. I want to curl up under my duvet and just wait for the pain to stop. Now, I’m a mother. So, heaven forbid ANYTHING happened to one of my kids…. I think I’d die of a broken heart. I’d just stop humaning!

I wish police had bodycams back then, to confirm movement within the house and not understandably worried police mistaking things or seeing things. Seems like this case would be far easier to analyse had that technology existed in the mid-1980s.

A .22 calibre rifle will make a loud "slap" if fired indoors. although this calibre rifle will often not cause life threatening injuries if fired into the body, it can be extremely deadly if fired at the head. This is because a .22 calibre round will have enough momentum to penetrate the skull but not enough momentum to exit the skull. this causes the round to bounce around the skull cavity creating huge amounts of damage to the brain. It's for this reason the .22 calibre round pistol is often favoured by hit men, looking to kill without leaving a mess. Great episode as always.

This is interesting and very important. So im guessing as the bullet does not exit the body, blood splatter would be very little or non existent. Therefore not alot of blood on the killer. Or at crime scene.

The police officers who were outside with Bamber when they were waiting for the tactical firearms unit to arrive stated that they saw a figure walking around upstairs in the house. A dark clothed figure. That always struck me as very strange and very eerie. Why wasn’t more made of that?? Especially as police officers saw it as well as Bamber.
@JohninRosc
@JohninRosc 11 ай бұрын
They have subsequently tried to claim they were all mistaken and that it was some sort of trick of the light. However the tactical firearms unit AND AN AMBULANCE were called for later in the morning and also police recieved a 999 call from the house after 5am and were in conversation with someone in the house after that. These are facts - and facts which provide a cast iron alibi that Jeremy was telling the truth.

Can I recommend the book: ''White House Farm'' by Carol Ann Lee? A very good read. Please do note, Sheila never killed anyone, she was a slim petite 5' 7'' and importantly her hands and feet were pristine after death. Sheila never shot and wasn't a lover of guns and / or hunting as Jeremy was. She couldn't have wrestled Neville in the kitchen (much blood and debris on the floor so how come her feet were squeaky clean if she's wrestled Neville and shot him ?) and killed him; he was a physically fit 6' 4'' farmer. The evidence to aquit Jeremy Bamber is pretty much non existent. Bamber shot all of them and much evidence points to that, both forensic and specific witness statements. Jeremy Bamber was a light touch drifter, cannabis smoking, ne'er do well. He wanted his inheritance far sooner than he'd get it through natural means, he wanted to use his sisters mental health as a cover for the murders. His disclosure to his then girl friend proved his evil scheme.Bamber shot all 5 people and Sheila would never ever have harmed her two boys. It was utterly out of character. Having mental health problems doesn't mean she'd shoot 4 people and add in the physical impossibility of shooting herself twice.

The maximum I have to pay for the highest pledge (Person Of Interest Tier) is only $7AUD. It really is extremely cheap, especially for the amount of content that's on there. Love the content, dedication, work, and energy you all put into this channel and on Patreon. You guys must need that break between seasons just to pick your mental health back up from the amount of deep dives you do for these episodes because you end up finding out some dark and depressing shit. Sheila's blood wasn't wet. The supposed "wet" photos of Sheila's blood was published when Bamber had a fake criminal lawyer who is now behind bars. In the original crime scene photos, Sheila's blood had cracks in it. She clearly died some time earlier. If Sheila's blood was geniounely wet then the police would of seen it, the defence lawyers would have seen it, the judge would and the jury would and yet none of them said anything about wet blood. And that's because there wasn't any.

This one is so close to where I live, and I honestly wasn't aware of it until the Netflix series; Everyone around here seems to have a theory with this case, of those old enough to remember when it happened. Glad you guys are covering this one!
@PaulA-yw6lx
@PaulA-yw6lx 3 жыл бұрын
As much as the case deserves more scrutiny, I really do not trust Jeremy Bamber or his manipulative nature, he is also the only member of the family who stood to gain anything from the murders, the situation with the silencer is bizarre and if he is innocent; there is certainly lot of evidence and conjecture pointing towards him. From what I understand, even Essex Police wanted an open/shut case pinning it as a familicide committed by Sheila; but they couldn't ignore other evidence brought forward such as the silencer with blood spatter and the fact that it was likely removed mid-killings and placed on Sheila as she wouldn't have been tall enough to shoot herself with the silencer on. Also, if she was having a psychotic break, why would she fit and remove a silencer to the gun?... A rifle and silencer that Jeremy only knew the placement of... I don't know what new evidence will come forward with the Louis Theroux documentary, I have not seen it, but Jeremy Bamber seems a very shady and manipulative character (he lied about things that seemed completely irrelevant/unnecessary), and again, he is the only family member to stand anything to gain from the killings, as well as wanting that inheritance and *not* wanting to carry on working on the farm.
@PaulA-yw6lx
@PaulA-yw6lx 3 жыл бұрын
Also, this is again conjecture, but I really do not think Sheila had it in her to kill her boys, her twins. It seems that they meant the world to her; even worst case scenario she killed her adoptive parents, I cannot see her raising the rifle and shooting her boys as they slept. I just feel even after killing her parents in the worst case scenario, she would then commit suicide. You cannot have your cake and eat it, if she is suffering a serious psychotic break and killed the whole family and then herself, how did she have the foresight and planning to fit a silencer on the rifle, and then remove it to take her own life afterwards... that's premeditated and doesn't fit with a serious psychotic break/crime of passion in my eyes. The only other person standing anything to gain was Jeremy, and I don't think the case against him was fabricated when Essex Police initially wanted to tie this case off as a murder-suicide.
@PaulA-yw6lx
@PaulA-yw6lx 3 жыл бұрын
Also, and sorry to rant on; the injuries to the father were severe and suggested a beating with, likely the butt of the rifle or a serious physical altercation... Sheila was a small/thin lady whom I doubt had enough upper body strength to cause such severe injuries to her adoptive father as was documented. Just because she had struggled with depression and bouts of psychosis we are attributing those injuries to her hitting/overpowering her large ex-military father and causing all that bruising and serious injuries *before* the fatal shot? Isn't that unrealistic, and didn't Jeremy have a far greater grudge against his father than Sheila?

New Romantic clothing wasn't that shocking or rebellious!! It followed the punk era!! Though to a highly conservative family in the country, it may have seemed outlandish, but I was just fashionable thank you!! Jeremy left the gun out, good excuse for his fingerprints being there. Sheila's blood hadn't clotted, was she on any medication/drugs that had blood thinning side effects? Big if (imo), if Sheila was responsible, had Jeremy played with her mind when around earlier (when the gun was left out!). Having referred to his sister as a nutter, it wouldn't surprise me if he'd used her paranoia to provoke hysteria and she'd previously smashed her hand into a window, so physical rage is possible. This would still make Jeremy guilty of inciting if not of the actual murders.

If Jeremy didn't make that call to the police then I would agree... But he did, which means he was either telling the truth, in which case he received a call from his father and Sheila had actually gone crazy with a gun or he was lying in which case he was the murderer. So, as you can see it was either Jeremy or Sheila. But once it's proven it wasn't Sheila it could only have been Jeremy.

Had a look at photos of sheila’s feet and think the prosecution were correct. her feet only have a few smudges of blood, like maybe someone whose hands were bloody touched them rather than her having walked around a house with bloody floors. I lost a child to death and if people had seen me at getting the news Id have been labelled cold and unemotional because it didnt hit me for 48 hours after which time i couldnt stop crying. Initially reactions that seem cold should not be held against people.

The podcast i saw the other day mentioned another 2 things that still make me convinced Jeremy is innocent not including the other points that have since come out over the years for at least 30 years I thought Jeremy was guilty as sin unfortunately whatever these 2 say at the end won't be taken seriously this isn't a joke 2 kids died 5 people altogether its a nasty tragic story even if its sheila

He’s guilty. I don’t even have to listen to it to know. The fact that Shawn Atwood had people on talking about him being innocent immediately leads me to he’s guilty.

It is kinda loud if their are no other noises then it could of been loud enough to at least wake the adults up. So idk this is a crazy case though and not much of this case makes sense. What about Jeremy's girlfriend? Do you guys think she could of been in the house walking around to make it look like Sheila is walking around? Idk this case is nuts but I'm leaning towards Jeremy's guilt. His girlfriend also knew about the kitchen window that he later used.

While the police did everything wrong here, I still believe that they ended up with the right conclusion: That Jeremy did it. If Sheila had never been violent towards anyone before, then why would she be it now? Why would Nevill have a gun laying around if she was violent? Why didn't he call the police himself. And why would Sheila shoot everyone else with a silencer, but remove it before she shot herself if she was psychotic? It makes no sense whatsoever. Jeremy must have been the calmest person in the world if he's not hysterical to get in and save his nephews. He says on the phone that there's children inside, but he's not screaming at the police to get in and look for them? And how convenient that he gets all the evidence destroyed. Jeremy did it.

OMG!! Sheila was a mental case. And sending her kids to a foster family, she did oppose. They're leaving out the phone calls made by Neville to the police stating that she's gone crazy she's gotten a hold of one of my guns. Any one's strong enough to beat someone to death w the butt of a rifle. More evidence after Jeremy was convicted found no silencer was used. The aunt + uncle ... we'll these just so much more evidence than what these two moofs are displaying. Crazy. He was framed. Framed by the cops. And these guys are telling lies. Some lies

Get in! You guys have been away for too long haha. Always found this case interesting, the police seemed to just wander around outside, I guess they were waiting for Armed Response? If some of the stories are true then Jeremy was literally stood with Police as witnesses of his innocence whilst his mentally ill sister went on a Rampage!

It’s tough watching the willful ignorance of these cops as they bungle this case so massively. Schizophrenic’s are RARELY violent, and she was a wisp compared to her dad. Oh blame the mentally I’ll over medicated girl who was lethargic and unhappy with how much so.

Just rewatched the ITV dramatization after watching this and I saw that the crime scene photos show Sheila with blood on her feet. I don’t know if these are authentic or created for the show but what’s the story behind them? If they are recreated for a show that is sure Jeremy is the killer then why give her bloody feet? Surely she wouldn’t have the time to walk on blood soaked carpet with any of the victims unless she was the killer? I’ve always been convinced that Jeremy was the killer but this has got me doubting myself. Does anyone know the answer??
@martin-d4h
@martin-d4h Жыл бұрын
There was no blood on her feet. He done it, no question in my mind. The only thing I wondered was if he had help, or if he hired someone to do it. If he had hired a contract killer, he would have made sure he had a solid alibi, easily done, just ask a friend to stay over, or go and stay with someone. The fact he done neither means he probably done it himself. There is added intrigue for sure. The family helping to convict him, they then inherit everything. His then girlfriend is one dodgy character, she claimed he confessed to her a day or two after the murders, yet it took her weeks to come forward, only after he had dumped her. Put yourself in the girlfriends position, someone tells you they have committed these murders, as soon as anyone had a chance they would have went to the police, as for her being scared to do so is nonsense, she would have been far safer by doing so, a very strange girl indeed.
