Fun fact: Author Kaitlin “K.A.” Statz doesn’t actually exist. The name is a pseudonym used by acclaimed author George R.R. Martin. Martin, after running out of characters to kill in his Game of Thrones novels, had to create an entirely new series in order to achieve his self-mandated kill quota of *Literally Everybody*. This can be seen by Season 4, as the author had to bring back deceased characters so that they could probably be killed again later on. Side-note: a TV show based on the White Vault is currently in production, starring Drew Carey. Its working title is, “Whose Turn to Die Is It Anyway?” (The Show where Everyone Dies and the Reason Doesn’t Matter). 😋 Seriously though, I love how rushed season 3 felt in the end - the characters and setting just didn’t seem nearly as compelling or well grounded like the first two seasons were, where everyone drinks coffee and things slowly start going wrong. Back then, the story had room to breathe and developed just gradually enough that it made you want to come back for the next episode, but ultimately the boring-ish first half of S03 was simply a feint jab to set up one HELL of a right hook from Episode 05 onwards, leading to one hell of a nostalgic feeling in S04 as it felt like something was REALLY hitting the fan as everything came together in this fantastic knockout combo. *Same shit, different Cave.* It takes a *really* skilled writer to understand that a story needs highs and lows, the contrast of black and white, bright and dark, joy and pain. It’s like having a rollercoaster that only ever gradually slopes up - boring. But the massive highs build anticipation for the gut-wrenching drops, which both guarantee a similar but different feeling of excitement. I hope you remember this comment one day when your name is on the Executive Producer credit of the White Vault TV pilot, and that you remember to properly label yourself as “Kaitlyn R.R. Statz”. 😄
