this song is beautiful in every aspect from the chords to the words... You hold the gun and I hold the wound, And we stand looking in each other's eyes, Both think we know what's right, Both know we know what's wrong, We tell ourselves so many many many lies, We're not pawns in any game, we're not tools of bigger men, There's only one who can really move us all, It all looks fine to the naked eye, But it don't really happen that way at all.

Those three chords are F6/9, Cadd9 and G. That's the genius of Townsend, when he can come up with this perfect and very moving chord progression. The Who were a mass of contradictions, and they should never have been able to make such marvelous music. Daltry was the only one who was filling the traditional role; he was a singer and brought drama and life to every song. Townsend was primarily a rhythm guitarist. His solos, however, were not his strong suit. Apart from being a great showman, he was a brilliant songwriter. The man INVENTED rock opera! Entwistle had an extraordinary sense of melody, and approached the bass as a lead instrument rather than the traditional role of the bass. Moon played almost nothing but fills and was constantly on the edge of complete chaos, yet he never lost the groove. It should not have worked; but it did! Nobody but them could have pulled it off.
