Your enthusiasm for radiators is endearing... I have some nostalgia for them as well having grown up in the 80s when they were still prevalent... but being a kid having also burnt myself on a few... I remember them well...haha, very cool fort, thanks for sharing! I can't wait for part 2! Also, I noticed some very cool French military art on one of the doorways that I think you may have missed!

Nothing like a little fixer upper to keep you busy! What an amazing place this is. It seems endless. That had to be a really tough and terrifying battle to take this place.

You should visit the Fort Hackenberg at Veckring which is just a few miles down the road. It is being restored to its pre war condition and there are guided tours available which last over 2 hours. It also held up the allies advance when in the hands of the Germans but because the guns were fixed firing in one direction the allies send a few tanks around the back and pounded it for a few hours until the Germans decided to surrender.

i'd almost say this place is a gold mine, and definitely needs saving immediately Tino - what an incredible place, and with its history, why isn't it open to the public?, another place i'd be happy to stay in and assist in clean up, a lick of paint (i got 40 cans of 25Kg white) - i never even considered these places would be heated, so all these these rooms you always assume have generators (some do obviously) must of had some furnaces or oil burning boilers for the water

greeat video Tino, just wondering why so much wood was used for the construction of this fortress because of the fire risk... Will look after the next episode this weekend. Thanx for this one! I enjoyed it.
@tinostruckmann4 ай бұрын
@@aRGee1965 if I were to come up with a guess which I'm now officially doing I would think it's because the Fortress was still under construction right up until 1914 at the beginning of World War 1 and there may have been a material supply situation necessitating the traditional cement over metal covers being replaced by wooden ones out of expedience

32:08 So, would any unexploded ordinance be so old and "weathered" that it would either have already cooked off or is no longer capable of doing so? Or have so many explosions occurred in some of these rooms that unexploded ordinance simply wouldn't be possible? Because it seems to be quite clear that there were multiple, very massive detonations that occurred throughout the entire structure. (I have the thought that where some of the concrete floors are missing that they were literally turned into rubble and dust by the massive detonations that were conducted). 21:32 And just to be quite forward about this I think that they never really cleaned up the place because no one wanted to pick up the fragments of so many that met their end in these areas, where the explosions were so fierce that there are hundreds, if not more, that were simply vaporized and have been left in this place unaccountable for. The scrappers likely found one or two of the more recognizable fragments and left screaming in terror. (You almost react to some areas of destruction as if you are subconsciously sensing spirits or ghosts). How many died in this series of explosive melees? The destruction is incredible and I am left to wonder what some of the wreckage once was when it was in one piece. Its incredible and you have every right to have turned back at every position that you did so. The place has every right to be the most hauntable place on this Earth. Rest their souls. 21:35 I am by no means superstitious but I tell you this, there is something in this particular area. Something not discernible and I for one wouldn't go in there for anything, whatsoever.

Good condition, i'd like to see you open an unknown bunker, not entered since ww2, maybe a skeleton in uniform at the entrance, that would be something, a forgotten battlefield.
