A list of speculative SF books about post-aging societies might be good for an episode of this series. Like Cory Doctorow’s “Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom” or “Walkabouts”, or Charles Stross’s “Accelerando”, Iain Banks Culture series, Stephen Baxter’s Destiny’s Children series (it only has a handful of immortals, but the change in mindset it brings is explored a little). Or maybe the Altered Carbon extended series.

There is an argument that there is no point spending money on a new technology, fusion, curing cancer or aging, until the time is right. I guess that really depends on how the money is spent: if you can idenify the next breakthrough needed to push the tech forward then it seems like spending should speed things up at any stage.

People are wrong in thinking that a longer life will make you ** Procrastinate **, but the fact is procrastination happens due to pressures and when there is a lot to do but you have limited time, it paralyzes the brain. It is not the time problem it's the decision problem. Hopefully having more time at hand will solve this issue. I want to spend time ** learning ** everything I can about myself. It is not fair that we have such complex bodies and brains but so little time to learn and understand them. I would spend time learning useful skills. I would love to get a multiple PHD's in science and arts. As for ** inheritance **, We can always increase the Pie, right? I mean in stone age people used to explore outside there territories in search for food, water, and for new habitats. There is no-one stopping us from doing that in space, In-fact Elon musk Mars mission is doing just that. We can too use other plants for our children give them as their 18 or 180th birthday gifts ? It is true that the amount of ** knowledge ** is grown so much even in single field (and incrementing still ) that we need life times to study and progress further and it will grow more and more. Hopefully with longer lives and healthy bodies our scientist will be able to solve all these problem exponentially faster. I don't know why are you asking these question, their answers are pretty evident. The only real problem is the Control and future governance, but I think this can be solved too, if our think tanks join their heads together.

You're assuming we even keep a monetary system at all. As automation increases, there will be no reason for humans to do most jobs other than to make money, giving people a false sense of productivity. I would argue this is already the case in many instances, and it's well within our technological abilities, for example, to automate a grocery store. It's just that huge efforts to automate things are always met with huge resistance from the public due to fear of losing jobs and thus their livelihoods. It is currently the case that most automation is more expensive (at least in the short term), than paying people minimum wage. However automation continues despite these challenges, and eventually the monetary costs of paying people to work will outweigh the costs of automating said labor. And it will be implemented. Therefore, society could go down one of these paths: - Resist automation, keep the status quo for as long as possible. People will lose jobs to automation, inflation will increase, costs go up, etc. Eventually governments will be forced to implement a UBI (Universal Basic Income) like system to house, clothe, and feed its people. But the process of getting there would be needlessly painful. Many people will suffer, become homeless, lack medical care, etc. Until the UBI-like system is implemented by necessity. or - Embrace automation. Look forward and plan for the inevitable, slowly make essential goods and products more and more free over time and/or implement an ever increasing UBI through social tax programs. Eventually, we could make money obsolete as all goods/services are provided for free. Experts in necessary labor fields may receive luxuries beyond those available to the common crowd, or their roles could be filled through volunteerism. This goes on regardless of whether aging is cured, but curing aging does make things easier as the social and economic burden of caring for the old is lifted.
