You forgot to pay respects to Joesph Arrington aka "JOE TEX" famous R&B singer....he owned a ranch outside Navasota city limits...he is buried in a cemetery off Hwy 105 1/4 mile from TX 6.....One of his big hits was "Ain't Gonna Dance With No Big Fat Woman".....he stated Navasota was his hometown....by the way he had an intense rivalry with James Brown...he stated Brown had stole his act and dance moves in the late 50s....he also claimed Brown had slept with his wife....

Texas country music artist Lyle Lovett has a place close to Chuck Norris as well. His gates have a big LL on it.

As a city boy who was raised in Houston, I find your fascination with small town Texas contagious. Thanks for helping this Texan rediscover places I haven't seen in years!

I really appreciate it, thank you.

I’ve never known a lot about Navasota, except it was a town I passed through, on my way to Washington On The Brazos. I’m teaching my granddaughter Texas History, not by book study, but by actually visiting sites within Texas of historical relevance. So far, we’ve made San Antonio, San Jaciento, Washington on the Brazos, and Goliad… I rely on Texas Parks & Wildlife personnel to supply details not divulged in Texas History textbooks. My granddaughter seems to be more receptive to experiencing the actual locations as opposed to just reading about them in a book…!!!

I totally agree with the way you're doing it Tommy and I know she'll never forget the adventures that you're taking her on! Y'all should go check out Columbus.

Nice video, my man. Been to Navasota a few times, actually bought a couple of cars there in the day. Didn't realize the history.

Hamer caught (ended) Bonnie & Clyde! Wow. Pause and read what he did! Life was tougher back then...shot 14 times!
@ThisSmallTown16 күн бұрын
14 times is wild. 😂 Also, I'm glad you was able to pause it to read the entire placard. Somebody suggested that I started doing that ( pause on the plaque so you can pause and read it) so I'm glad it's working.
@benwheeler673610 күн бұрын
His name is Frank Hamer not Hammer. He was a retired Texas Ranger when they got him to track down and stop Bonnie and Clyde. He is a legend of a law man.

I also see the potential in the old houses in these towns...if I were younger I'd snatch one up (like the one at 28:17) and restore it!👍

This is awesome! Back in the early 80s, I was going to college in Huntsville and to earn money for Christmas, one of my friends got us jobs at the cattle auction barn on the outskirts of Navasota. Not the clean office jobs with the ladies inside, but the dirty job of getting the cattle into the buyers' pen. So I have been to Navasota many times in the past Happy New Year!, but never actually seen the town itself!

Get the annual state park pass, do a state park mini series. Fish at all of them.

Yeah, wish I could but state and national parks require expensive permits to film.

Navasota had 5 fires in a row that burned everything down - and required buildings to be built out of brick in 1874.

Wow, but that makes sense. Thanks for sharing!

This is a terrible presentation. When you visit a small town it might be a good idea to ask a local about the town. I am a from this area. This is an awful ‘tour’. You missed a lot.
