Jiro dreams of flying and designing beautiful airplanes, inspired by the famous Italian aeronautical designer Caproni. Nearsighted from a young age and thus unable to become a pilot, Jiro joins the aircraft division of a major Japanese engineering company in 1927. His genius is soon recognized, and he grows to become one of the world's most accomplished airplane designers.
The Wind Rises chronicles much of his life, and depicts key historical events that affected deeply the course of Jiro's life, including The Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923, The Great Depression, the tuberculosis epidemic, and Japan's plunge into war. He meets and falls in love with Nahoko, grows and cherishes his friendship with his colleague Honjo, and innovates tremendously, leading the aviation world into the future.
#HayaoMiyazaki brings together the engineer Jiro Horikoshi and the author Tatsuo Hori, who lived during the time of the story of #TheWindRises, to create Jiro, a fictional character at the center of an epic tale of love, perseverance, and the challenges of living and making choices in a turbulent world.

There are great endings to stuff that i love The World's End (the third and final installment in the three flavored cornetto trilogy) Before Midnight (The third and final installment in the Before Trilogy) Toy Story 3 (Third and Final Installment in the Toy Story Trilogy) Breaking Bad Season 5 The Sopranos Season 6 Mad Men Season 7 Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 and 2 The Wind Rises (Hayao Miyazaki's Final Film before Retirement) And even with music like Whitney Houston's 2009 album I Look to You, her final Song "Celebrate" which she recorded 4 days before she died, her "Nothing but Love Tour" which went from 2009-2010 Beastie Boys Hot Sauce Committee Album before the unfortunate passing of Adam Yauch in 2012 And David Bowie's Blackstar Album released 2 days before he died. Goodbyes may be hard but memories will live on forever

This trailer will always give me goosebumps like it is doing currently. Kinda funny to the editor who worked their butt off to make this, saying it's the farewell masterpiece, when here we are nine years later and Miyazaki got pulled into doing oooonnneee more. His talent and the talent of this crew is unmatched though.

I've always loved these kinds of coming-of-age stories about real people who overcome struggles and do great things, because they are extremely personifying and will always give you relatable moments. I promise you, these stories are occurring right now everywhere in the world. Even to you, dear KZbin commenters: Look back to your childhood and reflect on events around you. The good ones, the bad ones, the inspiring ones, and downright evil ones. They made you who you are, but as an adult you must strive to bring it to its full potential. For example, this reminds me of my little brother. We grew up in a large town in the middle of the rolling green mountains. When I was a young boy, we moved to one of the few flat places in the valleys of our region when he was just starting to speak, so naturally there was an airport with some regional flights. Sure enough, my brother is becoming a pilot, and I fear if war is really ahead of us with the other world superpower, he will be one of the first to be drafted.

This movie, although not miyazaki's last as we thought, still is one of the best of the ghibli catalogue. The beauty of every scene is amazing, and the simplicity of the story is its strongest point. Of course, it wasn't well recieved by the united states because of the simple fact that it portrays the war from another angle. I've read people calling it morally repulsive, wich is complete bullshit: Jiro doesn't design planes made to kill people, he designs planes because he thinks they're beautiful. And we see many signs within the movie that point out the awfulness of war. Miyazaki is completely against war from both the "good" and the "bad side", and if you've seen his movies, you know that: he doesn't side with anyone, he simply tells a story of good people who have the bad luck to be stuck in war, and these people aren't bad for being on the opposite side of war, they're simply people, because in war, there's no bad people, just people who follow orders from individuals with too much power. Calling this movie morally repulsive would be like calling a documentary about the "Manhattan project" disgusting propaganda about brutal homicide, or also calling The Grave of the Fireflies morally repulsive, just because these kids happened to be japanese and deserved to suffer for their leaders.

Yeah.. one of the main messages of The Wind Rises is cursed dreams, but in such to say that out of all of humanity what we may love could be cursed to us somehow. That’s what dreams are, and what we love could be apart of, but it’s the fact on Miyazaki’s perspective, as a man which was born in a time of war, and experienced the machines and bombs that possibly his dad created, he wanted to show that his dad and other plane designers such as Jiro may have not seen or thought upon that aspect. In fact they found beauty of it, not seeing through eyes for it to be tools made for war. “Planes are beautiful cursed dreams, waiting for the sky to swallow them up” -Caproni

I can’t recall the last time I cried as much as I did watching this. Miyazaki's historical melodrama is breathtakingly gorgeous and not only does it evoke strong emotions in viewers, but also encourages them to reflect on the past and present. After years of being inspired by Italian aeronautical designer Caproni and dreaming of creating his dream plane, aviation-obsessed engineer Jiro Horikoshi finally managed to fulfill his ambitions. However, his world comes crashing down when he learns that his prized creation will serve as a weapon used for battle in World War II. Highlighting the significance of pursuing one's dreams and celebrating inspiration and craftsmanship, The Wind Rises is an essential Studio Ghibli watch that everyone should check at least once.

The story of this movie made me cry and happy, the meaning of a bitter life, scared by the urge to live for the sake of a career, the meaning of a love life to legitimize each other's sacrifices of husband and wife and wife with full of enthusiasm to fight the disease that continues to give encouragement to her husband to succeed. .and I really like this movie Ghibli you are the best I like your work I am interested in your work because there are many morals and civics in the sense of human life good job Ghibli

I watch this almost every day. At first Naoko's death breaks me, but now I think Jiro is just so selfish. Coming from a wealthy family he was afforded that luxury of being able not to notice certain things. Like when he takes the train to go work at Mistubishi and he was surprised at all the country people walking the tracks into the city. He sends Naoka a note saying he can't live without her, causing her to leave the hospital to her doom. He says he wants to create beautiful planes but created one of the most lethal killing machines of WW2.

My friends like Ghibli, but nothing I say can make them watch/appreciate this movie. It’s one of my favourite Ghibli movies, up there with Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away. Maybe it’s the fact there are no spirits, creepiness or murder like in Prin Mononoke. I find this movie interesting and beautiful and exciting, but other of my friends just don’t see it, they think it’s boring, but it is an incredibly beautiful and realistic masterpiece. (And very sad too. I cry at the end every time.)
