Algo will help only to eliminate jobs of people working for operators or big palyers. They will automate trades but directions will be directly or indirectly given by humans. Algo is for speed (intraday, options, expiry etc) not for positional or long time investment.

@@rajantrader1 chances are more of intraday traders. Stoploss is more important for intraday traders. good stocks cannot gets manipulated for more time using same money or margin as operators do. Algo is for speed and speed required intraday only. Future and options but not for positional or long term investments. Human can do better for positional and long term trades. After all machine use programmed humain logic called algo

Do brokers pay brokerage, no, because they directly interact with the exchange. In same manner HFT firms directly interact with exchange.

Depends on their trading frequency. High Frequency give returns ~100% while Ultra High Frequency gives returns >~150% easily but at the same time their STT, Exchange costs etc add up subsequently and proportionally.

Algo trading provide speed and speed gives no time to think to take wise decision. Trading is game of emotions and algo or computer is multiply tool of investors emotions. For me all will make money who knows rules of stock market game. Just time frame (daily, positional, long term) changes and mode of trading changes not rules of game.
