Scramblers were old road bikes modified to ride in the dirt. It was a thing in the 60's and early 70's. Boomers were the generation that did this like my father who would be 76 if he were still alive. This was before the Trial and eventually motocross bikes were invented by Yamaha. The Honda MVX was a bike that I had two of them. The middle up-right cylinder was often lean with the auto oil feeder and the fix was a bigger drilled oil hole. It was a quick bike easily getting to 180+ kms/h and that was quick in comparison to the single or twin four strokes. It was the Honda 2 stroke version of the RZ RG inline twins and KR tandem twin.

@@smittyk7810 Are you kidding? There were purpose built motocross and trials bikes when Yamaha were dreaming of their first moped.

@@jimtitt3571 Really, like what? So why did the scrambler era happen or was it just an Australian thing for poor people modifying their old BSA road bikes?
@smittyk7810

@@jimtitt3571 Well I did not know that but it seems your suggestion of the date purpose built is a reasonable one and that European builders did it first. I thought in Australia the Yamaha DT-1 1968, was when proper dirt bikes from the factory was available to us Aussies in numbers that changed dirt riding culture. I was aware that scrambling and trials styles of riding were happening, and competition were also. But purpose-built dirt bikes sold from factory my lived experience during that time was later 60' early 70's.

At a price point of $4000 I would get one of those Chinese postie bikes for running around the station complex, and the odd run into town

Blake was here. I love winter riding better as I don't sweat like I do here in 95 degree heat with high humidity. Good thing is, it only last 90 days and most of the year it's great. Only get to the 20s for a couple of weeks. But I still own a bunch of gear to ride safe.

I'm with Grumpy on the Alpinestars Tech 7's, especially with the grippier 'enduro' sole, I love mine, they're real comfy. I wouldn't have anything else but that's probably because I have size uk16 (us17, eu52) feet and Alpinestars MX/Enduro boots are my ONLY (and I mean ONLY) option!!

Because most of the younger generation don’t understand that motorbikes existed before 1980, they fail to do research before posting trivia questions. Kawasaki made a range of triple cylinder 2 stroke motorcycles from the late 1960s through until the early 1980’s. See below Wikipedia extract which outlines the models. I actually owned a second hand KH 250 triple in 1982. (Lunatic bike. The frame and suspension couldn’t handle the acceleration that the engine delivered). The Kawasaki triples were a range of 250 to 750 cc (15 to 46 cu in) motorcycles made by Kawasaki from 1968 to 1980. The engines were air-cooled, three-cylinder, piston-controlled inlet port two-strokes with two exhaust pipes exiting on the right side of the bike, and one on the left. It was the first production street motorcycle with capacitor discharge ignition (CDI). Right from the first triple model, the 1968 Mach III H1 500 cc, it was a sales success that gained a reputation for almost unmatched acceleration as well as an air of danger for inexperienced riders trying to cope with the bike's increased power to weight ratio over any previously available stock motorcycles. 1972 Entire line introduced, intended to be similar in style, with the "swooping" racing stripes on the tank that distinguished the triples. S1 250 cc (15 cu in), S2 350 cc (21 cu in), drum front brake H1B 500 cc (January), orange, disc front brake, CDI dropped for breaker points, steering damper and a front disc brake.[6] H1C had CDI ignition instead of points as found on an H1B, and a front drum brake as opposed to the disk brake on the H1B model. The H1C carried over the stainless fenders from 1971 along with the complete fork assembly and gauge style. Engines and exhaust were also carry overs from the 1971 model making it a true hybrid of the new 72 H1B and the 71 H1 models. H2 750 cc (46 cu in), front disc brake, CDI ignition with one igniter unit per cylinder. 1973 S1A 250 cc S2A 350 cc H1D 500 cc Adopted H2's CDI ignition and the styling that would be used on the later 1974 models, including a wider seat and tail section paint matching the other body panels. H2A 750 cc 1974 All models restyled with a new cleaner design that resembled the Kawasaki Z-1, with an instrument "pod" rather than separate instruments. All models revised for more civilized performance at the expense of raw power. S1B 250 cc front drum brake. S3 400 cc disc front brake, restyled cylinder head design for better cooling. H1E 500 cc H2B 750 cc 1975 S1C 250 cc S3A 400 cc H1F 500 cc H2C 750 cc 1976 H2 dropped from line, models renamed "KH" to match the "KZ" line of four-strokes. KH-250 250 cc KH-400 400 cc KH-500 500 cc 1977-1980 Only surviving models are the KH-250 and KH-400. There are pics on the net if you want to see the engine and exhaust configuration.

I recently purchased the CFMoto 450MT and they have been around since the 80's and the bike is pretty good especially for the price. I didn't have $20K for a new adv bike and when the 450 came out I said that's for me for this time in my life, looked at the KTM 390 and CRF rally but I think this bike is better, and they have sold 800 bikes I believe since they arrived.

Yeah, I have no motivation at all to ride this winter up here in snow country (new england) I have knocked back 3 club bush rides so far this last 2 months, -15 C wind chill at 6.30am start not my idea of a comfortable ride, but I am old 65, so maybe that has something to do with it. This is Armidale district area (Northern NSW), we do have perfect not very wet weather though. plus 7200km of riding tracks. We can also use single tracks here.

The problem with buying Chinese products is that you are funding their military build-up at our own detriment, eventually China will economically fail so how will you get spare parts in the future and the Chinese are limited in manufacturing since they import most of the parts and are mostly assembling things like iPhone. Vietnam is becoming the industrial alternative to China since most of the foreign companies are leaving China. China is also demographically failing because of its upside-down population pyramid because of the one child policy and their current reproduction rates. I think promoting Chinese products that you want to last a long time because of the cost of the product is a foolish idea just because you will save some dollars on the initial purchase.

The Chiners are throwing a few cats amongst the pigeons lately. I'd give it a while yet before even considering one made there. Their price point gets new riders out on the roads and trails though that's for sure. I know where Horsham is, here's a quiz question for ya...who's the Horsham Hurricane? No Googling or DuckDuck going.
