Jared Dowty Carver figured out how to do his police work much more effectively too after getting schooled by Colvin, going from just cracking skulls to building relationships and leading other police. Herc was the worst cop in every way. He should never have made sergeant. He ruined Randy’s life due to his incompetence

@r2kool4u- before showing up at city homicide, McNulty had 4 years at the Western District, and a couple of years in escape and apprehension. His date of entry is April 5th, 1994... which would make his 13 years around the 2007 mark. thats what he and bunk are talking about at the :45 second mark... easy fact to miss. I just got finished watching the entire series a second time.... it's amazing of all of the stuff I missed the first time around.
