I'm pretty sure this is my album of the year. Weyes Blood is one of the best artists working right now and she somehow seems to capture the abundant existential millennial heartache better than most of her peers.

Perfume Genius and Weyes Blood have a collab called Sides on his album No Shape (really great song) so there’s the overlap you were asking about and I’m sure there’s a lot of overlap in fans as well.

My favorite bit of biographical nonsense is about her life as a noise artist. It’s a very subtle yet strong relation to noise you can hear on the wonderful interludes and instrumental tracks like In Holy Flux and the lead-in to The Worst is Done. There’s a cool article that explains a lot about it on her website

when you listen to other reviewers, they don't tend to say much. Yours is the best review I've ever heard. Detailed, intelligent, fascinating, connecting myriad topics beautifully - sad when it ended. Do more.

I'd love to hear more from you about Björk's work, since you already went through Fossora, you could go backwards and continue with Utopia, which reminded me a lot of “God Turn Me Into A Flower” and you can feel Arca's production + the Podcast "Sonic Symbolism" is very insightful.

Definitely check out Titanic Rising if you haven't by now. It's similar to this record in some aspects, but TR is poppier and catchier, and both records work together (the artist said they are two of a trilogy, with the third one being her next output)

Jonathan Rado co-produced the album with Weyes Blood. He is, in my opinion, one of the most talented rock producers in the game right now. He’s worked with Tim Heidecker, The Lemon Twigs, The Killers, Father John Misty, and plenty more.

Love, love this album. Up there with my favs of the year. I buy the Southern gothic / Steinbeck vibes idea and is a worthy way of listening. Also agree with idea of an intetextual conversation, that's fascinating. Interesting, I get those intextextual conversation vibes as well with Alvvays's Blue Rev.

Just wanted to drop a comment (since I don't comment on many things) and say Perfume Genius's 2012 record "Put Yr Back N 2 It" is the most immediate comparison I can make to Weyes Blood's "Titanic Rising" -- both of them being two of my absolute favorite singer-songwriter records of the previous decade.

It says a lot about someone when they feel better about about their misery, if everyone else feels the same way. A very different type of person will find that idea very distressing and would prefer that no one feels as miserable as they do.
@riggamorrischan Жыл бұрын
I think it’s comforting in a way. Isolation can make you feel that whatever you’re facing, you’re facing it alone when really there are others that know how you feel. It can still be sad, as no one should feel that way, but it’s almost less depressing to know you’re not *completely* facing it by yourself

you should really think about listeing to some of Bjroks newer music! I assmume you would like hearing vulnicura, some of her saddest songs and amazing string work throughout. Vespertine too is such an amazing album, and Utopia is a beautiful album featuring some great woodwind passages. Her other albums are also spectacular, just a little harder to get into first time around.

Its toxic to say something like "yiud be surprised how many of his songs you know" to someone who doesnt know Nillson? What world am i living in? The irony here is that you took a review of a woman's record to talk about and reccomend a man's record and promote his music. You go on to talk about how great a reader you are and wax prwtentiously about loose vague influence on the artist.
