The best advice I can give here is don't ask "what am I supposed to do?" ask "what do I want to do?" This is a game that rewards exploration, curiosity, and self expression. Look around at everything, think about how you would approach situations, and always remember there are no wrong choices. Sprinting toward whatever the game leads you to believe might be the main quest is a valid way of playing, but you will also miss a lot of content that way. I love to see so many people who are new to D&D and CRPGs checking out and enjoying this game!

@@darkwyspercreationsI spent 3 minutes the first time. Then regretted how dumb my guy looked, and deleted the save. Spent around 25 minutes after that, majority of which was listening to the character introductions and reading what each class/race does... Ended up picking a normal human, and give him a dark urge just to spice it up. I think it just gives you some weird dialogue options.

Enjoyed watching your play through as a complete newbie. You picked things up pretty quickly! You figured out you don’t have to fight to win a situation. And battle is a lot more tactical than in a lot of games. Using Sneak is a great skill to use too to detect enemies before they see you so you can better prepare. Use buffs and enemy debuffs and place your party members before and during fights. Keep sharing! PS Great character creation by the way! I spent like 15 minutes and didn’t come out nearly as good as Raige is.

You're mistaken about this being a good playthrough, it's not even HERSELF playing the game, it's chat controlling her, the ONLY part she took seriously was the character design. She's playing the game in a fun happy enjoying way, which is NOT WRONG, but not competent, that word applies to people who focus on the race, class, subclass, ability points distribution, background, spells, etc, the ones who take min-max to perfection, THAT'S competent. She's is a CASUAL player who's having fun at her own pace, which is AGAIN, not wrong in the slightest, I just don't want some feminist troll saying I'm being sexist or something.

Consider playing more agressively with melee companions. Most of the time it is good idea to get in melee range against ranged units. This way, they will attack with disadvantage, furthermore if they try to leave, they will eat attack of opportunity, or they have to waste their action to disengage, which means they are not attacking this round. Additionaly your Astarion can sneak attack them, while they are threatened. Don't be scared if someone is downed, just a healing spell, from Shadowheart will bring them back up. Healing word is a bonus action and usually it is a good idea to keep it in case a character gets downed :) Also any companion can use their action to throw a healing potion onto downed companion to heal them, as long as they are within throwing range of course.

It's cool to see a genuine blind playthrough. Most people played early access or did a bunch of research beforehand. I get wanting to know the basics of what kind of game it is before you purchase, but it's a lot more fun watching someone experience it the first time. No one cares about a speed runner doing his 700th run, except for maybe the speed.

@@ramteja1550 That's not a first playthrough issue. That's more of a "I don't have a kind of my own and just do what people tell me" issue. I got through the game without asking anyone what to do, nor looking anything up online. Well I'm still in the 3rd act, but you get the point. If you're into watching someone do something they've done a dozen times before, might I recommend speedrun content...

It's nice to know I'm not the only one not playing on tactician. Having to use scrolls of revivify too often is immersion breaking when you are supposed to imagine your characters worship gods. They might not want to return from the afterlife, particularly if they are facing ceremorphosis.
@volourn9764
@volourn9764 Жыл бұрын
Why? The reason to return from.the dead is you haven't accomplished certain goals which fits adventurers almost no matter the god. Besides, unless you a priest, you can't worship a god in bg3. :D
@victorthurse6027
@victorthurse6027 Жыл бұрын
In Baldur's Gate 3, the adventure the player and the origin characters are on is, "find a cure". Death cures the infection. Gods are a thing on Toril. Their appearance in avatar form and intervention in the world is part of the recorded history of the Toril. They have realms in the outer planes where their worshippers go in the afterlife. I suppose you can imagine that when you revive someone, the gods are acting through you. In regards to your observation that Larian left out choice of god for non-priests, I did some experimentation in-game. I re-specialized Shadowheart to be another class and then changed her back to cleric with the war domain. It didn't offer the option to pick a different god and labelled her as a priestess of Shar. I changed Astarion into a cleric of Lathander. The entry for Lathander says his followers despise the undead. I changed Wyll into a priest of Tiamat. Wyll is all about hunting down devils, but isn't restricted from becoming an agent of a devilish god. From this, I am going to say that I don't think class-choice based options or restrictions are intended to shape what the player imagines regarding in-world faith. Lore-wise, most commoners worship many gods at once, saying prayers to the god whose domain is relevant to their current situation or aspiration. That may be why they did not include the choice to pick a single god for non-priests.

@victorthurse6027 most people in the Realms have a 'patron' God. This doesn't stop them from giving proper respect to a God who rules a certain aspect of life. Plus, most demi humans like dwarves and elves dont really worship human gods at all (exceptions do exist) as they have their pantheons)

For your subclass, all of them are good in their own way, but for a beginner, Evocation is the most recommended because the spell list for evocation is the biggest AND most importantly, since there IS friendly fire in this game, the big area of effect attack spells cast by an evoker don't hurt your allies, while they will for all other subclasses.

Cantrips can be cast an unlimited number of times. Friends is mostly used during conversations rather than combat, but if the spell wears off while you are near, they will think less of you afterwards. Some of the ranged spells don't work well close up, so you'll want one spell for close combat.

I dont know if you've figured out spell slots yet or not, but they can be a bit confusing when coming to d&d from other RPGs. Partly, I think the term "spell slot" is misleading, because its not really a "slot." Heres a quick primer: every spell has an associated level (1-9) representing approximately how powerful that spell is. Each caster gets a certain number of slots for each spell level that increases as they level up their character, and you can generally only cast a leveled spell if you have an unused spell slot of the same level. Your spell slots refill after a long rest. Your wizard starts off with two level 1 slots. Cantrips are spells, but they do not have a spell level and therefore do not use any slots. For example: Firebolt can be cast at will with no resources, but burning hands will use a spell slot. Theres more to know, like upcasting and character tiers, but this is the basics of spell slots.

Maybe just.my personal preference. But i love playing Rogues, why? Because they have all the skills you need. Lock picking, finding traps, disable magical devices, sneak, hide in shadows, Deceive others, Deplomacy, plus many more and sneak attack which does double damage and can use it at range to. If you get really good at being the talking you can even convince someone to kill themselves 😊 Then all you need is 2 fighters/Barbarian, 1 cleric and yourself or 1 front lines fighter/Barbarian, 1 cleric, Druid/bard and yourself. Druid/bard is more crowd control. Well Druid is more crowd control Bard is more buff/debuff with some crowd control. Wizards/ Sorcerers are squishy they can cause a lot of damage but you don't want anyone to get close. It works like this Front line: Fighter's Barbarians Paladins Secondary damage dealers: Rogues Rangers Clerics Maybe bard's? Long range: Wizards Sorcerer's Warlocks The reason why i say Secondary inserted of Medium range is because Rogues can back stab with blades or use bows and cross bows at long range. Rangers can use swords and use their favored enemy or use bows at long range. Cleric can also use weapon How ever she should be used more as the healer of the party. Dave range weapons for rogues and rangers they will have more skill in it. Keep any fighting class with melee weapons. Also make sure you match the weapons with their abilities so they can have more options and do more damage. Meaning if the have a great axe Give them a great axe, if they have a sword give them a sword. If you're playing a wizard remember to keep your distance Let the front line get up close it's their job and they are good at it. Use you cleric to heal them while you stay far back as you can and deal damge, if you see an enemy getting closer move away from them if they hit you it might be the end for you. If you can hide behind the cleric and make sure you give her a sheald. Yes that would be Shadow Heart. Make sure Lazel has a sword Etc. What ever they most likely start off with is the weapon they know how to use best. In order to have good strategy Remember to look at your parties skills, abilities and/or magic. To give a better idea. And remember it's your party you should gear your party to synergies with each other. Or what happen in my D&D campaign. Friend Mage: cast force push on corrupt gard. Me Rogue: fires pinning shot Friend Barbarian: cuts off his other hand and she proceeds to intimadate the corrupt gard to get info. Me Rogue: use my talking skills to throw innuendos at him and say "i have a ring of regeneration, if you talk maybe I'll be nice and will give you your hand back" Pretty much that all synergiesed with each other and because the Barbarian was intimidating that gard it made it easier to convince him to do what i wanted. It works the same way in this video game. Pay attention of everything this is the type of game where if you think it you might just be able to do it. If you right click you'll get might get more options...wait or was it left click? Well idk my PC died.

My knowlege of wizards is not up to 5e, but here's everything I know Most spellcasters are too physically weak to wear armour, but wizards literally can't. It interferes with their ability to cast spells. You are exceptionally vulnurable, particularly at low level. Remember that most of your spells work from a distance. Mage Armour is your friend Your physical attacks suck. Rely on your spells. You can recharge them by resting. Do not be afraid to spam it. Wizards can learn every spell in the game, but cannot cast them unless they are copied into their spellbook. Unlike sorcerers, you can't gain new spells as you level, only spell slots. Find and treasure every spell scroll you can, they are expensive to buy. Even if you find or, god forbid, buy a spell scroll, there is always a chance you can't memorise it, and if you can't, the spell disintigrates. That ability is tied to your intelligence, so top it up. Get yourself a familiar. They will save your life. Also, as you advance, get as many summoning spells as you can. Have as many people fighting and dying for you who are not you as possible.

Mages can wear armour in 5e. All you need is proficiency. Certain races (shield dwarves) and a quick multi class into armour wearing classes can do it. Or just take feats. Wizards can't memorize priest spells

This will be so awesome to vicariously live through the eyes of another witch! I'm a seasoned DM from the old D&D second addition. I read all about the d20 system but this was my first time playing anything using the mechanics. All the spells are the same though...even have Tasha's Hideous Laughter. Im about 10 hours in and really enjoying the game. Good luck and I also subbed...glad to be here

Well it really depends on your play style. If you are more the combat style go with Evocation and you can do a lot of damage. If you don't like getting your hands dirty or just want to handle thing more "diplomatically" or more of a trickster like a fey I'd say go with Enchantment or illusions If you're more of the pritecting type Go for Abjuration If you don't like getting your hands dirty and still like killing things have have no problem using dead people go for Necromancy Or if you don't want to use dead things go for Conjunction.

1:03:15 "How do I know what costs what?" Each turn you get three phases: Move, Action, and Bonus Action. If you read the skill's description it will tell you if it's an action or bonus action, notated by the green or orange dot at the bottom of the skill's description card. In tabletop you would then roll dice to see if you succeed and what the resulting damage will be. In the video game it does dice rolls behind the scenes so you don't have to do any math yourself. :)

1:49:25 Choosing spells. Note that there are many factors that go into spell design and therefore affect this decision. Here's an example from the video: Witch notices she has two healing spells selected and immediately banishes one and keeps the other. "We don't need two healing spells." Well, maybe not but the are VERY different spells. Cure Wounds (visible at 1:49:32) requires an action and the range is "Melee" so you must touch your target. It heals the larger amount at 4-11 HP. Healing Word (visible at 1:49:35) requires a BONUS action and has a range of 18 meters but heals for a smaller amount at 4-7 HP. So, one spell can be cast on an ally that you can't reach AND you can also cast any other spell or swing a weapon or do any other regular action in the same round. The other one heals about 25% more HP on average but you must put yourself in harm's way to touch your ally and you won't be able to do anything else except bonus actions that round. Also, if a friend is on the brink of death, you could actually do both heals on them if you want to. I know the Witch is new to this game at this point and didn't know any of this stuff. By now she does since I wrote this comment 3 weeks later. So it's really for anybody else trying to figure out how to understand the many, many spells in the game.

Ultimately the main difference is that Word is a godlike spell and Cure Wounds is mediocre.
@Astrid-td1to
@Astrid-td1to 8 ай бұрын
Assuming spells work like they do in 5e you wouldn't be able to cast both. Since if you cast a spell with a BA the only other spell you can cast that round is a cantrip with a casting time of 1 action
@blakewalker84120
@blakewalker84120 8 ай бұрын
@@Astrid-td1to You are correct but BG3 does not have that restriction. I cast Bonus Action spells all the time, and still can cast any prepared spell of any level with my Action. Just today my Shadowheart cast a level 3 Spirit Weapon (BA) and a level 4 Spirit Guardian (Action) and wrecked the battlefield in record time. Next round she dropped a Level 3 Cure Wounds and a level 3 Healing Word on an NPC we needed to keep alive, swung that Sprit Weapon at the boss baddie and waded into battle melting 3 fiend minions with her swirling halo of Radiant death (Spirit Guardians).

ur teammates and ur own toon have diff strengths and should be utilised accordingly if u have very difficult tasks ahead (like use ur toon for Arcana, and Astarion the rouge for sneaking and so on,) also, the game shows u the modifiers u get for actions in dialouges if it has words in brackets before an action, like [STRENGTH]. and the modifiers change depending on the character attempting the action, which makes it worthwhile to learn ur groups pro's and con's, esp if u run into a situation that ur own char wouldnt get any bonus for any of the choises, then u can try it with a diff partymember that is more suited for the task ^^

Remember that awards shows are politics, and have nothing to do with quality or enjoyment. Now that many eyes are on this, it might have a chance, but only because it's popular and not because it's actually good (which it also is).

@@fredericleclerc9037whatever your opinion on the character customisation, it’s still a brilliant story. the entire ordeal with the faces - as you put it, it’s just because of the intense cinematic cutscenes. it’d be impossible for body sliders and face sliders. and for the genital options? there’s 3-4 for each sex. and they’re basic, too. it’s literally uncut, cut, and bare? there’s nothing inclusive about it, it’s just a goddamn body part. and for all this ‘woke’ stuff you bang on about, it’s just gay stuff. i’m not even gay and its entirely optional for GAY people. i’m sorry that you can have sex with a male as a male or a female as a female, and i’m sorry there’s a joke about having sex with a bear (in which nothing actually appears on screen if you choose to do so). sensitive, are you? get over it LOL!
