I know it's a long way away, but damn, when the Netflix show reaches its end, I'm gonna be feeling somewhat melancholy, especially with the showrunner saying explicitly that the show will end where the books end (probably Lady of the Lake, though I guess them including the Season of Storms epilogue may be a possibility). Looking back, I think CD Projekt Red provided the perfect ending for Geralt with the Blood and Wine DLC (with whomever romance partner the player chose - Yen or Triss).

@@Ignisan_66 it's honestly not that bad. The first two books are a nightmare to adapt. So the Show had to cut out some of the most interesting stories and downscale the ones they showed for the sake of building a cohesive timeline. As a book reader, I will definitely watch Season 2 as the material it's adapting is so much more linear. And is far less focused on sending a message through the exploration of classic fairytales.

Unfortunately we're getting fanfiction. I don't think it's bad, it's pretty decent story telling, but it's quickly deviating from it's claim as an adaptation. Don't know how they're going to play out the messy political battles of the northern wars. Sad that we're seeing the show being completely ripped of nuance and instead forcing a linear narrative tied to modern views for what I'm assuming is for the sake of it being easier to digest for people who are not particularly fans of subtlety lol. Also I'm really disappointed with Vesemir's role in season 2. Almost stopped watching it because of that annoying subplot entirely.
@thegreenmage69562 жыл бұрын
@@JesykaL No, it IS bad. The only agenda is making women and non-white people look wise, good and powerful, while EVERY. White. Male. is made to look weak, stupid and lacking in direction/vision. That is the only thing they care about and it is the only worth they have invested in this show. For us true fans of the Witcher, the show is an awful stain, and a point of shame.
@JesykaL2 жыл бұрын
@@thegreenmage6956 Yeah I can respect the opinion. I was just saying, as a show, it's not terrible. Entertaining at the least. Looking back, I can see what you're talking about though. Especially with the forced diversity. I'm just hardwired to not completely hate something I *can* enjoy. I threw away my expectations for the show after they completely butchered Renfri's story; telling myself to not have any feelings for their adaptations of the story anymore. Just seeing it as a fantasy show loosely based on the books. God the beast adaptation was even worse than the Renfri one tho lmao

@danf32012 жыл бұрын
I like it because it's the most human reason, Emhyr is this cold calculating manipulator who conquers half a continent and has all of these plans within plans, which makes him inhuman, and therefore less interesting as a character, having a flaw like allowing his emotions to override his plans is very humanising and makes him a a deeper and better character. While it may not make sense logically, people aren't logical, Geralt didn't have to lift the curse on Foltest's daughter, he could have killed her safetly, that he didn't is more interesting.

@@zefft.f4010 Actually I think "Gaard" means yard or something like that. And "Nilf" I think is just a name so "Nilfgaard" roughly means *"Nilf's yard"* or garden (like you mentioned) so in a sense yeah it feels like a fake name that doesn't feel...'organic', like it doesn't seem like a name for a people, what they'd call themselves atleast. Which in their own language would just be something like "the people" or "our people" anyway as that's the case with every language from every nation. Atleast without any sort of context whether historical or mythological or likely both their name seems out of the blue. Think the name Roman, the people of Rome and how that's derived from Romulus, one of a pair of legendary brothers that were the supposed founders of the ancient city of Rome and were said to be half-god sons of the (Roman) war god Mars. Without a similar explanation or context I can't see how Nilfgaard became the name of a place, much less were the name of a people was contracted from such as "Nilfgaardian" or why they'd prefer to be referred to as such. *Like just who was this Nilf character? Where did he come from (assuming it's a man and or possibly a "semi-divine" male figure), what's this about a garden or yard? Why is that notable? What's the symbolism there? What's the story behind it? And why was he, the figure so important, what's his tale?*
