A friend of mine who's read the Fable Comics said that it's a Fairy Tree, and Fairies in the comics are a bunch of a-holes. Burning the tree seems like the best idea.

Anyone that's played the game should give the comic version a read, because it lets you know exactly how much of a piece of shit Greenleaf is. The tree isn't even actually a family heirloom like she claims, and she working for the Crookedman entirely of her freewill, not under threat by any means. So if you feel bad about burning her tree, don't. She deserves all of it.

A fantastic performance. In a playthrough I did of this recently I played the 'merciless lapdog' role and it was only at this point in the game did I feel really guilty for simply following my 'orders'.

Snow in my mind is no better than the crooked man if she thinks she can destroy a lady's life in one minute and walk away. Taking away her magic is like taking a authors ability to write. I was trying to think as a police officer would in this situation. The tree, and what it's used for, is illegal. Therefore, it has to go. Take it as you will. I'm not saying any choice is right or wrong per se. That's just my two cents.
