Another triumph! I love your style of music, it is terrifically moody and invocative, each of your songs have a great amount of gravitas and great call backs to your other compositions. The first part definitely ties very well into Ruby's journey. Success after success gave her the feeling of purpose and passion. She was blindsided in the Fall of Beacon and only realized too late the game that was being played while the adults stood by and let it happen. She struck out on the trail towards Haven with no clear path as the only purpose left to her to try and make sense of the situation, blind to any danger. Qrow rescues her from the threat of Tyrian and they soon make it to Haven where they rejoin with Oz. Oz, despite parading as a wise wizard of intense purpose, shows himself to be as complacent and tactless as ever by allowing the entire group to fall into a deathtrap that turned their way only because the orchestrator, Raven Branwen, managed to defeat the enemy champion. With trust dwindling in the immortal she is given the entirety of the truth who hides away, causing the only other adult to fall into a stumbling depression. This seems to be mentioned directly in the song of "looking over the hill towards the dark seas " in reaching Argus. She leads the party through thick and thin and takes more and more reckless steps to reach her goals. She believes herself to be invincible, blind to any danger. In Atlas she is given exactly what she always wanted. She acts with true purpose towards a concrete goal in restoring communication and reuniting the world. Though at the same time she doesn't trust her main benefactor, planting the seeds for the spiraling tragedy. She even triumphed over her erstwhile mentors, how could anything be a true threat to her? V8, Salem is there with no time to truly prepare. She does what she thinks is right, warn the world of Salem. This leads to one of the team being wounded and stopping her from moving against Salem directly, with her dearest friend crash landing in front of her. Then she faces a twisted mirror, a trick of fate that could have been her destiny had she not been rescued by her uncle. She does not learn from her failures of trust though and only succeeds in spreading it as she again beguiles her once benefactor. Blind to any danger, she and her team goes forward with their risk laden plan to try and save everyone, not making hard decisions. Turning her dearest friend into a human sealed her fate, and she doomed two entire cities all for the sake of one girl, no matter how special, is not the actions of a hero. Cinder achieves her greatest victory (in her mind) and sends all to the void, including Ruby. Will Ruby finally reflect on her failures? Or will she deflect and blame others, pushing onward without thought? The dark side of "keep moving forward!" Will Ruby spare Cinder? Did Blake and Yang spare Adam? Will Ruby see Cinder as the dark reflection as the song implies? There's a possibility. I especially love the idea of "It's just preparation for when mother meets daughter." Doing what must be done to end their suffering. But... Ruby has never fought other people with the intention to kill. (Some White Fang in V2 were certainly killed.) I would love to know what Ruby thinks of Cinder. We know that Jaune wanted to better understand what broke her. Ruby has only responded to Cinder's actions and we've never heard her thoughts on her. Does she pity her? Hate her? She did kill Pyrrha. She has now killed Penny. Has brought untold amounts of suffering and death. But is she worthy of being rescued? How would Cinder herself react to such a gesture? Would she see it as weakness and kill Ruby at the first chance for daring to show her pity? After all, Cinder is "power" built on glass and she seeks power to make sure no one can ever hurt her again. Or would this true act of kindness awaken something in her? People say Cinder is unredeemable because of all the terrible things she's done, but my mind always jumps back to Magus from Chrono Trigger. He is originally portrayed as the dark source of everything that has gone wrong. He leads a force against humanity and has killed countless people, but we later learn that is how he was raised. He was raised to hate humanity for the wrongs they committed against the Mystics. Yet when Magus sees his ambitions break before his eyes he reflects on his failures and his waste of time as all his acquired power is nothing. He plans to end his life in one final glorious fight, but you, as the player, have the option to forgive him, despite him causing the death of one of the main backstory characters and indirectly leading to the main character's fall. This act of kindness moves him enough to join the party. I won't say the same thing will happen with Cinder, but their paths are somewhat similar. (Though there's no Schala for Cinder to live for.) I do love the imagery of Silver Eyed Warriors being pushed to become a warrior by an unquenchable thirst for the death of Grimm. (Just like Grimm seem to have a thirst for the deaths of humans.) being equivalent to a hungry wolf. This song is inspiring and inflames the imagination about the future showdown between Cinder and Ruby, fantastic work!
