@@shirtlesswog7477: Actually that wasn't an improvisation but a ritual of Matthew McConaughey performed always before his scenes. The shot originally was recorded without that little performance, and Scorsese was also satisfied. But DiCaprio asked if they could try it again, including that little ritual of McConaughey's because he thought it would fit well for the character. However, the second part (not included in the reaction), where McConaughey asks DiCaprio to join in the chanting, was indeed an improvisation.

The final shot is meant to signify that despite all of the terrible things Jordan has done - all of the shady dealings, illegal activity, the ridiculous amount of debauchery and drug use... people still want to learn from him. The crowd represents us, the audience, who decided to sit down and watch a man tear apart his life and the lives of others for a life of freedom, carelessness, and moral ignorance... and yet there is still a part of us that wishes we could be like Jordan. No matter who you are, chances are you secretly want a taste of that lifestyle. It's one of my favorite shots in the entire movie, because it basically points at you, the viewer, and says "and yet after all that, you still want in don't you?" Such a great film, Scorsese's best in my opinion!
@i_so_late3 жыл бұрын
it's also the idea of, there were people who criticized the film for promoting and encouraging this type of behavior, but the film is just showing it. It's not Scorsese's fault that some of us idolize this lifestyle, it's the audience's fault (for lack of a better word).

To be fair Dane, as far as punishment goes he basically got a slap on the wrist from the government. Sure, he lost his wife and custody of his daughter, but people who have done far less than him have had the same fate in that regard. At the end of the day he's still rich, still extremely influential and he has no real incentive whatsoever not to be. So if you're an externally motivated person who has nothing resembling a moral code, you'd have no problem wanting in on what he's got.
@shurik1213 жыл бұрын
@@nathancollins1715 Yeah, Belfort married again, moved to Australia, travels all over the world with his seminars and lives a pretty good life in general. He still owes ~100 million dollars to the government, but no one presses him to pay., and he won't ever pay all of the sum. If all someone got from this movie is "being Belfort is awesome" after watching him beat his wife and crash a car with his daughter inside, and after watching him being a despicable piece of shit through the entire movie, there's something fundamentally wrong with this person.

Those serious film critics and writers who dismiss this as "lesser Scorsese" have missed the point of his whole career, I think. Whether it's Jesus in "The Last Temptation of Christ", Travis Bickle in "Taxi Driver, Rocky Marciano in "Raging Bull", or *both* Jimmy Hoffa and Frank Sheeran in "The Irishman", his movies are rise-and-fall narratives, and here, as so often in his other films, the rise and fall is often an indictment, or at the very least a simple explanation, of our cultural lives, and of our lives themselves. "Wolf of Wall Street" presents us a world that SEEMS to have the moral rules and imperatives suspended. Sound familiar? The inevitable punishment for hubris is always around the corner. Think of all the other Scorsese films where this plays out. As such, "Wolf" is peak Scorsese, if anything. Glad you enjoyed it!

Did you know: this film was originally four hours hours long? They studio have to cut the extra hour because of censorship, and it got test screened as well and it went well!

Fantastic movie! This movie is three hours exactly, and I think there very well, might not be a more entertaining three hour movie EVER. What's especially brilliant about the film, is that it feels as if it possesses the chaotic, reckless, frenetic, fast-paced energy of the person whose life it's adapting - Jordan Belfort. It's as if his very soul is imbued into the film. The narration is effortlessly personable, the story is easy to follow, dynamic, and full of well-defined, diverse, fun personalities, who are all given enough to do. Crackling, frequently witty dialogue, a crackling fast pace, and just entertaining situation after entertaining situation make this movie a delight.

The crack smoking scene is for sure my favorite scene of the movie. The emotions Leonardo goes through after the hit is hilarious!

*Fun Facts* 3:44 Matthew McConaughey improvised that scene, that's why Leonardo DiCaprio is so confused and looks at the cameramen saying (what's going on? Should I go on?) That's why he hits his chest so confused later. 7:28 - Leonardo DiCaprio couldn't hold back his laugh in that scene because of the other actor

Crazy that Leo didn't win an Oscar for this. He did an amazing job. The scenes with him and Jonah Hill are absolutely hilarious. One of my favourite movies this. Such a good watch!

the thing is that a LOT of people confuse YELLING A LOT with great acting.

I bet the reason why this movie had so much swearing and nudity is because it was Scorsese's follow-up to Hugo. (A kids movie he directed)

It is good to know that, in the end, things worked out for Jon Bernthal and he went on to work with Doc, Baby, Buddy and Darling... He's really talented at this breaking-the-law thing...
