Well, that's not true. In fact, there's some current legislation and issues regarding wolves living closer to human civilizations. Mexican wolves currently have traps left for them to try and counter livestock decline (Despite the fact that hunting wolves has no discernible effect on average livestock lifespan).

I was up there 14 summers and thought these were the 2nd most studied wolf pack, besides the ones on Isle Royale in Lake Superior. David Mech spent 13 summers up there studying them prior to 1999, and some more after that. No, they've been studied alright - approachable, accessible.
