I'm from Thailand and very interested in history of China especially the Qing Dynasty. I'd like to know about Qainlong's Nara Empress who had been deposed. Since I cannot read any Chinese, it is very difficult to find any good description in English or Thai about that event. Yang Guifei was the first of the four I learned about, through the mention of that poem about her in the Tale of Genji. Yep. A reference to a chinese poem in a thousand year old Japanese novel.

Guifei or Noble Consort (not Imperial Consort) is one of 4 consort titles of women of equal rank just below Empress in the Tang Dynasty. In later Tang dynasty period the title Guifei became more prestigious. Imperial Noble Consort only appears later in the Ming and Qing Dynasty.

His mother Wu Gui Fei is the emperor last favor. She wanted to her son to become crown prince, she framed the other 3 princes for the rebel and 3 princes are killed by the emperor. She is dead one year later because she afraid the princes ghost come back for the revenge. And because of her dead, the emperor is very sad, and eunuch Gao helped the emperor to find the replacement, Yang Gui Fei.

Everyone carried some degree of blame. The Emperor for not controlling his passions and Yang for appointing deceitful relatives and the relatives for their treason. Neither the Emperor nor Yang intended for these things to happen obviously but both are still partly responsible for what went wrong
