This is one of my favorite songs of all time (by any band). Such a powerful lyrical message with such powerful music behind it. This is one of the many songs that sets The Wonder Years apart from any band that I have ever heard. now I don't know if they were specifically talking about Christians. I mean think about it, other religions do the same exact thing (Muslim, Judaism, Christianity, Catholicism, etc...). anyway, every time this song finishes i sit there and say "WOW" =)

I came from an uber-religious town, but grew up to be nonreligious. "I don't need saving" pretty much sums up my feelings.

This whole debate is ridiculous. I consider myself a strong Christian, and I love this song and TWY. Come here for the music, not anything else.

@alecpierzga Lot is the nephew of Abram, later called Abraham in history found in the Bible, son of Haran. I'm assuming that's what the writer is referring to.

@alecpierzga Lot's story can be found in Genesis chapters 11-14, and 19. He's generally considered a righteous man in the Bible, but there are some pretty big mistakes of his recorded there. I hope this helps!

@AmiLikesChiodos Lot was a figure in the bible who lived in Gommorah. When two angels came to tell him the fate the city was about to undergo, the townspeople were about to rape them. So Lot, gave his two daughters to recieve the raping instead of the angels.

@Ryanincambonia i think Soupy is atheist, but he's ok with religious people. this song is about how nobody should be pushed into believing something. they should only believe something if they want to.

I was curious so I looked it up on Wikipedia, it looks like he had children with his daughters.

@alecpierzga Lot is mentioned in the Book of Genesis...Both Christians and Muslims revere Lot as a righteous man of God...random fact! Not sure how I know that, I'm atheist ha XD

@alecpierzga @AmiLikesChiodos Lot is a person from the Book of Genesis chapters 11-14 and 19, in the Hebrew Bible. Notable episodes in his life include his travels with his uncle Abram (Abraham, the Patriarch of Israel); his flight from the Kingdom of Sodom, in the course of which Lot's wife looked back and turned into a pillar of salt; and the seduction by his daughters so that they could bear children.

@huhhhhhhhhhhhh09 and another point is if god is so all-knowing and powerful, he would know the people he creates would go to hell before he created them. it makes no sense to create thing just to make them suffer. also free will cannot exist because of this, only the illusion of free will since we are already destined to a fate he already knows. it's a totalitarian system with no appeal. the way their god works is in a human, imperfect manner.

As a Christian who questioned his own beliefs, I want angry atheists to understand something: Questioning a Christian upbringing is SCARY and PAINFUL. Try to imagine what it would be like to realize that you've been lied to by everyone your whole life, especially your own family... then at the same time, they tell you something is wrong with you, and you are going to hell. It's much easier to just sweep doubts under the rug, especially when you're told doubts come from Satan to lead you astray.

@AmiLikesChiodos @alecpierzga Both Christians and Muslims revere Lot as a righteous man of God.[2] The Biblical stories of drunkenness and incest attributed to Lot are absent in the Qur'an, being rejected by Muslims - Lot is venerated as a Prophet of Islam. I got all this from wikipedia. It was bothering me too. I knew he had to be biblical but I had no idea who he was exactly. Haha. (:

For your reading pleasure: wiki/Lot_(biblical_person) Essentially, Lot was a guy who escaped the city of Sodom, and got seduced by his own daughters. Before the destruction of Sodom, he offered up his virgin daughters in the place of two angels.

You see what Soupy is saying here is that he doesn't believe in a tyrannical figure that is willing to send billions of his own creations to a lake of fire that burns for all eternity, simply for making a wrong decision or never coming to know him over the course of 80 years, give or take on the amount of years. Also he probably isn't a fan of the whole, do ANYTHING I tell you thing, like; "kill your own son if I say so Abraham, lol jk"... I mean that's what I got out of this song anyway.

@ianedwards19 I don't know WHY you had to start this by posting something like that on a music video. You knew what would happen by doing it. So kindly just end it here. The point of this video is for music not for arguing that won't lead anywhere since you obviously are a close-minded person that won't change. Just to let you know, I used to be mormon and the more I found out through the internet, the more impossible it became to believe in a god. You can do the same if you take the time.

And also what in the fuck does this guy Lot have to do with the song in any way like seriously its just a song and as far as i know doesn't have anything to do with Soddom and Gamorra. So kindly stop and just enjoy the song.
