Hi Alain, I just wanted to let you know that I haven't enjoyed a woodworking video as much as this in a very long time - if ever. Everything was fantastic. The content, the commentary, the camera work and the editing. Five stars my friend. Well done. 😊

Thank you so much. I wish everybody would see this that way, Like most people my views are in free fall. Most other YT channel don't edit like I do and keep saying on cam what they will do... But I must admit I have no credit for my editing, I've earn my living by being a TV news editor.. I have another video about this on the day I've retired

Thank you It's been a while since I've received a comment on this urn, it's funny because Monday I delivered another one just like that to Annie, unfortunately now it's her father who got lung cancer. I had to watch the video several times to be sure I'm making it just like the other one. But instead of being a playing card it's a fisherman

I like making urn, even if this sound creepy.... You can put a lot details or not at all it always depend for who you're making it. I'm glad I gave you some ideas.

Very nice video and finished project! May I ask why you did the lamination process for the bottom piece? Could you just cut a regular piece of walnut for the base? Thank you!
@LgosseuxDbois-TheWoodpecker
@LgosseuxDbois-TheWoodpecker Жыл бұрын
I wanted a very stable bottom and by laminating 3 plys of walnut, I made my own plywood, so the bottom won't move and possibly crack open the urn
@jacilynns6330

its very nice. The only change I would make would be the details on the card. Maybe a little blue and red paint before finish or something.

@@LgosseuxDbois-TheWoodpecker oh I know you could have done a lot, interarsa comes to mind right away. I was just saying what I would have done differently.

Yes I did intarsia for my parents urns. I don't know if you've seen it? It's my forth episode several years ago... But I figure that an intarsia playing card wouldn't have as much details that a carved one. But you're right I could have gone several different ways to do this.

Nice project. Am I right in thinking the contents are loaded from the bottom? I was expecting the lower groove to take the bottom of the urn.

Yes the ashes goes in from the bottom. If I remember correctly it was not deep enough. Sorry I did this 16 months ago... I was not at ease to post it just after making it.....

Very nice. Question: how did you know how much space to allow for the ashes?
@LgosseuxDbois-TheWoodpecker
@LgosseuxDbois-TheWoodpecker 3 жыл бұрын
According to chart it's a bit less than one cubic inch per pound. So I make them a bit more than one cubic inch per pound and It was OK for all the urn I did

Always enjoy your videos - question - what are the dadoes for? - Relieve warping?
@darksunrise957
@darksunrise957 5 жыл бұрын
Dados are essentially a thick stack of saw blades, to remove a lot of material rather than just making a thin cut.
@jbmorrow5390

@@darksunrise957 Oh sorry - I know what they are - why did you make Dado cuts in the sides?
@LgosseuxDbois-TheWoodpecker
@LgosseuxDbois-TheWoodpecker 5 жыл бұрын
The ones in the bottom are a mistake, I intended to hold the bottom differently and I changed my mind along the way... But the one on top act as a slot to old the clams that holds the top in place I wanted to do the same at the bottom but I didn't.

by the bottom which is screwed to the rest of the box with brass screws. It's why I made a 3 plys walnut plywood for the bottom, so their will be no wood movement

If you go to my web site (the woodpecker.net) in the plans section you will find the plan for it in sketchup format. I made the other one two months ago, so the measurements are good. The only difference was a fisherman instead of a playing card. I also have two more urns plans on my website, my last video was another urn....

Very nice work! No mistakes this time? Especially like the playing card. Was her Mother Poker player or what?
@LgosseuxDbois-TheWoodpecker
@LgosseuxDbois-TheWoodpecker 5 жыл бұрын
No apparent one... In the beginning I intended to put wooden hold down like the top for the bottom, I changed my mind along the way so I have this dado on the bottom inside that has no purposes... And Yes she was the president of her bridge club. It'S why Annie asked me to make a custom urn, obviously an urn with a playing card is uncommon....

Why did you re-saw and glue the bottom piece?
@LgosseuxDbois-TheWoodpecker
@LgosseuxDbois-TheWoodpecker 5 жыл бұрын
I was not sure if a solid piece would cup so I made sort of a 3 ply plywood, but thinking it over again, I only used a 1 thick piece for the top... So It would have been ok just tu use a square piece of walnut.
