this was fun. I remember my dad building a grandfather clock for Christmas in 1967. He was a Mastership wright so of course he used teak. He had just rebuilt an older shopsmith machine and used it for the build. My brother still has the clock. very cool

I hope our chidren will keep this case also. But I'm not sure the mechanism will last long.... If we forget to rewind it it has the hardest time to restart again....

Can't wait to see the clock finished. That walnut looks fantastic.

Another awesome project, Alain. If I should be so bold as to suggest that when you are using your CNC machine for fine woodwork like this that you don not use tabs, which some times can be a pain to remove. Instead I use two sided tape and set my profile cut to a depth that leaves a skin of wood in the bottom of the profile (in other words do not cut all the way through). When the cut is complete, remove the tape, use a band saw to separate the two pieces, and then use a flush cut bit on your router table to clean up the edge and you are good to go. While it may seem that there is an extra step using this method, there is no sanding to do and the finish is superior to sanding. No criticism here, Alain, I think that the case is outstanding. Dan

Man, with that kind of workshop equipment, anyone can do something like that. It's a perversion to cut slots for glass holders on a 3D mill.

Love your build videos but they move so fast that they seem more like watching a preview for a longer build. Thanks for sharing.

Lovely project so far Alain. Have you ever tried a flush cut bit to remove tabs? So far that has worked best for me.

I bet it's better than the sander..... I did that on one of this year gift, that you'll see next year :))

You should make wooden gears for this clock

it would probably worked better.... in the last year the mechanism doesn't work as good has it uses to.. if we forget to wind it and it stop it has the hardest time restarting...

if this was with a mechanical movement ill be very impressed, especially if it has a chime thats right mechanical. Im not a fan of electronic movements.
@LgosseuxDbois-TheWoodpecker4 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't have put so much effort on a electric movement....

@@LgosseuxDbois-TheWoodpecker i meant no offense. I was just saying ill be really impressed for a mechanical one. Im already impressed with the walnut by itself.
