"Irving Berlin has no place in American music-he is American music. Emotionally, he honestly absorbs the vibrations emanating from the people, manners and life of his time and, in turn, gives these impressions back to the world-simplified, clarified and glorified." Jerome Kern

Beautifully stated. May I offer this opinion: God Bless America should be our National Anthem. The old anthem can be gratefully retired to the National Archives, along with other War of 1812 memorabilia.

Irving Berlin came along at the perfect time. If he had been born 100 years later, he likely wouldn't have been so successful. His songs were too artfully crafted and distinctive to fit in with current dreck.

Cuando le pidieron evaluar el lugar de Irving Berlin en la música americana, el compositor de canciones Jerome Kern dijo, inmediamente: “Irving Berlin no tiene ningún 'lugar' en la música americana... Irving Berlin es la música americana". When asked to evaluate Irving Berlin's place in American music, songwriter Jerome Kern immediately said: "Irving Berlin has no 'place' in American music, Irving Berlin is American music".
