The COVID-19 pandemic is a global crisis of unprecedented scale, with aftershocks that will be felt in virtually every aspect of life for years or decades to come. The Frederick S. Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future at the Pardee School of Global Studies has launched a new video series called "The World After Coronavirus," in which we ask leading experts and practitioners from Boston University and across the world to explore the challenges and opportunities we will face in our post-coronavirus future.
The series is hosted by Prof. Adil Najam, the Inaugural Dean of the Pardee School of Global Studies and former Director of the Pardee Center. In this episode, Dean Najam speaks with Kishore Mahbubani, Founding Dean of the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy at the National University of Singapore, about the future of world order and global governance after COVID-19.

China has always been very very generous with America. Just look back few decades ago. China shows it by buying tons and tons of American treasury. And in thousands of occasion China has willingly cooperate with America in whatsoever ways they can. In Chinese culture, respect of the elders reign supreme, so too, remembering who your benefactors are. That is why many times, China would bend their back to accommodate USA , and their people world openly welcome Americans to China. To make them feel at home. This all changed when both Chinese govt and its people perceived from Democrat president Obama a rise of nationalism in America to contain China, it worsen under the administration of Republican president Trump with his constant bashing of China. The meekness of China was mistakenly interpreted by the American govt as a sign of weakness. To the consternation of America, it only makes China stronger. Perhaps, we have all forgotten one of the basic law in physics, a force will produce an equally amount of counter force . It is time to assess and recalibrate the Sino - U.S. relationship , It is time to drop the hawkish stance by both country that was initiated by the Americans , it is now the time ro adopt a new dovey approach by both country . With this COVID 19, the world has awakened to the fact that biological warfare did not work , it boomeranged and ended horribly. Almost bankrupting the world. Nuclear warfare is too damaging and totally unacceptable . Remember Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the SCARS REMAINS . Conventional warfare will easily escalated into a Nuclear one, With the reality that WAR is out of the equation, the only route remain is A PEACEFUL RESOLUTION. IT CANNOT GET SIMPLIER THAN THAT. ALL IT NEEDS IS TO ADOPT A NEW APPROACH. WORLD DOMINATION IS OUT , WORLD COOPERATION IS IN. GIVE PEACE A CHANCE, GIVE THE WORLD A CHANCE, MOST IMPORTANTLY, GIVE MANKIND A CHANCE . TO MEN WERE GIVEN THE POWER TO CREATE HEAVEN ON EARTH OR TO MAKE IT A HELL ON EARTH.

Ever since 1970, the Chinese government has become a dictatorship and within those parameters has birthed a virus. They must be held to account

The reason why China has bought so many bonds is because 1 it's a good investment. But more importantly to make America dependent on China. America basically can't go to war with China because they are literally the biggest US debt holders. One theory to how the coronavirus spread is selling of exotic animals. The theory says that Chinese wet markets had pangolins who had eaten some bats. Spreading of SARS virus was also from Chinese wet markets. Selling exotic food was banned when when SARS spread but shortly after the ban was lifted and now we are with the new coronavirus. Normal people wouldn't be able to afford those expensive foods. It's the elites who are bending the rules and getting what they want.

@Kwok Wai Lai it's not the US that'll be banging the drums to attack the US, about half the world will stop trading with China. I don't think a war will be needed to starve out the CCP. Just stop trading with them, start making products in other countries and china, will die

4:50 Good advice for the Chinese Politburo at least, though I think they have revanshistic tendencies against the U.S. and old Western Europe colonial in general in their long term geopolitical strategy thinking moving forward.

I support the idea of GLOBAL GOVERNANCE, as he calls it. Since my high school days, I embraced the idea myself, but I called it WORLD GOVERNMENT. This idea was not originally mine : I read it somewhere in Bertrand Russell. And I still believe in it.

Kishore has an "authoritarian" view of a Singaporean. All must be "governed" by something "above all". China must "win" and someone "lose", still so divided on the same boat. I wonder about Kishore's position in Singapore, where they have "hired help" living in state-run dormitories. A huge "class" system, it looks like. Also rich elites in China while millions toil in factories. Could we even expect any accurate numbers from China, describing people like Meng Wanzhou and many other Chinese buying mansions around the world? "Art of War" actually stinks of "hate" - there must always be an "enemy" to guard from or defeat. other "art" usually connects humans to others, Yuan Sheng, Chinese pianist a master of (German music, J.S. Bach, on German(Steinway) piano) a masterpiece of "cultural engineering" pleasing all humans, apparently even Chinese as Yuan studied/learned from Jewish Americans in New York. "Art" connects many to Beauty. The Art of War is no art, it's pure terrorism.

1:30 Regarding the boat analogy, you have mutiny on the lower decks of the cabins - those mutineers are most of the general working and middle-income populace feel each day as hostages on your captainless boat.
