The World at Your Feet: Episode 4 - Japanese Rain Geta

The Bata Shoe Museum's monthly series "The World at Your Feet: Stories From the Collection of the BSM" is back with our April installment. This month, as we prepare for 'April showers to bring May flowers', our senior curator Elizabeth Semmelhack is looking at a pair of Japanese rain geta.

The word ama(あま) does not mean rain, but nun (尼) in older japanese. You probably meant ame(あめ) as in rain(雨).

Hunlover123601 in kanji, it will be 雨下駄 which can be read as amageta. (Even though it was read alone as 雨 ame)

She pronounced it correctly. You're trying to pronounce it like a rice country people 米国民
