They had quite a bit to do with each other....First off they were made by the same developers. Not to mention some of the characters in TWEWY look like characters from Kingdom Hearts, for example, Sora and Neku, Kairi and Shiki.

Instead of a sequel an MMO kinda game or multiplayer would be cool. New challenge set every day you have to team up with a player etc. I dunno just a thought. Story wise I don't see how they could really top this one unless they base it in another town or something.
