No joke a 300lb tortoise walked into my parent's yard. The neighbors down the street were driving around looking for him. He got down the street and around the corner in a couple hours. My kids loved it. The turtle barely fit in a commercial sized wheelbarrow.

We back into spaces (not Trader Joes, many places), to be able to leave later without yet another reason to embrace misanthropy and to more easily avoid the *amateurs* who will walk directly into the path of a vehicle that is in the process of backing out and keep walking without pausing and without looking at the car and driver. Can't count how many times I have had to suddenly plant my foot on the brake *after* the path had been clear once my reverse lights were on and I had looked every direction and had assessed accurately that ample space was open to reverse out. Too many pedestrians do not walk where it is sensible, nor pause, and instead choose to stroll directly into the path of moving vehicles without any sort of eye contact or shared gestures indicating we're both aware and one is conceding to the other.
