Hype 4 like 90% Monarch mk3. sheeeesh, here in the PH, its rare to find mk3, but I tried mkII if the resolution of the mk3 is better than mkII means Hype 4 resolution is indeed almost level in the 500$ - 700$ sets of IEM's

I have had the Xenns Top since release BUT I would say if you wanted to save some money and could get either I would def back the Hype 4. I think if you can wait and save or have the money then sure try Top and return one if possible. I think the Hype 4 sounds great for the price. Gaming on the Tops and IEMs in general has been insane over headphones. Also, I agree the White Hype 4 is really beautiful. I wish my top had more "gems" on it. I know each are different but the way they did the Hype 4 is really really a nice-looking IEM.

Reasons why I listen to Fresh Reviews IEM gaming reviews: 1. He’s the most experienced gamer of all the reviewers- former CS pro, high elo player in Apex many FPS games while most other reviewers aren’t really gamers 2. He tests the IEMs in multiple games- every game requires more or less soundstage. For example my Blessing 2 were way too wide sounding for Valorant where maps are small and tactical and enemies sound father then they really were. 3. My personal experience- I bought the Orchestra Lite off his recommendation and it was a clear upgrade from my B2 for gaming. I could hear the pinpoint location of enemy movements so I could better anticipate where to place my crosshair and time my shot when enemies would swing me. Of all the reasons though, #1 is the best reason and I don’t see this changing any time soon.

No, his reviews regarding iems in gaming are very subjective and i dont agree with him. Im a quite good CS player with many years of experience and i dont understand why would he put the Volur on the top of his "Wallhack" iems. Ive tried to play CS and PubG using the u12t and it didnt work well. The sound was too smooth and warm and i was actually getting sharper sense of imaging with a way cheaper Hook X. For music the u12t worked better (already sold them) but with gaming the experience was rather mediocre. Considering the Volur even slightly warmer and bassier than the u12t, im sure they arent very good for competitive gaming.

I really appreciate fresh's reviews I just wish there were more gaming-perspective IEM reviewers. I want to hear opinions from multiple people because of different preference and ear anatomy etc before making a purchase. Just like with music-listening reviewers. I can definitely confirm that IEMs can be bad for gaming but good for music. I love my S12 but it's endlessly frustrating in game. I just can't tell when something is behind me and I'll get disoriented constantly in fights. The Ziigaat Nuo I borrowed is 1000% better for gaming while obviously worse for music.

This feels like a flawed way of trusting anything on the Internet on any subject, so respectfully disagree with all those points. 1) With this logic, LeBron James or Steph Curry sneakers are #1 ranked in making me the best basketball player I can be without injury, since they're 2 of the most successful and durable athletes in the sport the past couple decades and wouldn't sell me on something for any other reason (sarcasm) 2) LeBron uses his shoes to play ball in arenas all over the country and even outdoors sometimes. Guess that means theyre #1 still since he tries different use cases 3) Ive bought LeBrons and loved them before btw, true story. But Ive also bought several pairs Ive hated and regretted due to them being made more for style over substance/them wearing out quickly Long story short, this is why you dont trust people on TV/the Internet unless they have some proof to backup their claims other than their personal background. No matter how credible their background is on paper, they're still incentived to be biased, even unintentionally. Even Jay would admit this about himself to some extent Im sure, which is why I do appreciate him going over in good depth both objective (frequency response) and subjective opinions on IEMs in good detail. He also has a good balance of hyping things when it something that really sounds special, and when something still sounds damn good. Thats the best you can ask for from a single reviewer, which is why consumers should seek opinions from multiple credible reviewers before buying. Stacking opinions from reviewers like Fresh doesn't really get you anywhere, since you're not sure what he likes more about these IEMs besides imaging and soundstage, and like Jay pointed out that's too many independent variables to draw conclusions off of. If you listen to 5 reviewers who just do that, you're just going to be back to square 1 since there will never be any consensus on why certain things would fit your preferences better than others

I can get the Hype 4 and Top for almost the same price where I’m at (~330-350 USD). In what scenario would you recommend the Top over the Hype 4? And is Top with 300 mesh better than Hype 4 in your opinion? I currently own Studio 4, SA6Mk2 and Chopin. Looking for a fun set to replace the Chopin. You opinion would be greatly appreciated 🙏

Hype 4 has better bass texture less boomy, smoother treble, TOP has better resolution and brighter. Since you’re missing a good bass set I’d grab the Hype 4

there's a few videos on reading frequency graphs but can you do one where you're explaining what makes an iem (graph wise) : dark vs bright, sparkly, if smooth is always good, why peaks are bad or sometimes good, what makes it bass muddy, how different drivers come into play, popular targets and maybe explain yours; learned a lot from your channel and think i'm getting a hold of some of this stuff but it'd be a great help learning more; GREAT VIDEOS BTW!

For testing methodology. Take multiple competitive games, go into a practice tool game, and have players walk around to test areas that are progressively harder to hear. Have a microphone set up for the iem to pick up sound queues and footsteps. Then have video and audio playback footage of the footsteps and sounds in the game for your video. You can repeat this process and compare it with other iems. You can make a whole video compilation of this. Then maybe even have people vote on which ones were most audible for footsteps. Sort of like how MKBHD has the best smartphone photos video, and had the audience vote on the best photos.

Hi I was looking for the Hype 4, since they told me they are cheap MKIII and they have an almost identical tuning frequency, compared to Xenns Top, would this cheap alternative be better in Gaming (Escape from Tarkov, Apex and COD) and Music(Rock, Metal, Electronic)? Budget is not a problem. I was really gonna save for the MKIII, do you also think the difference in amount of drivers actually makes a difference between the two options?

Go for Hype 10 instead it's smoother for rock/metal/etc, gaming wise it doesn't make a difference past $150, 85% skill + experience, 10% monitor/mouse, 5% IEM

From my perspective I think the quality of IEM for gaming is not make your gaming performance better (I kind of noob gaming person lol) but it's help with gaming experience like you feel more immersive feel more enjoy more intence with your game scene.

On my next hangout with my local audio club I'll definitely demo this beauty of an iem, one of the friends has bought the Hype4 and gave quite a raving impression like u did here. Thieaudio has truly been on a roll lately, getting terribly close to cannibalizing their golden gooses like the mmk2/mmk3 with each new cheaper releases with somewhat the same tuning and 80~85% of the technicality. Wonder how good their Hype 10 will turn out to be, is it gonna be simply just the mmk2/mmk3 but with no est treble =))). Anyway, awesome review as always mate.

Decided to buy the hype 4's after hearing your review. Also I think its stupid to buy an expensive iem for gaming alone. I played on apple earbuds for years at a high level and never complained about it in game. if the equipment is decent and is working properly then there is nothing to blame other than the player themselves lol.

Make your your source impedance is 8x less than the moonlights which are really low at 8 ohms or so, not sure...so source would need to be 1 ohm or less. It would mess w the respinse if not right.

jay i need ur advice, im currently using the qkz hbb and i really like the relaxed linear tonality and the bass extension and slam. which iem around $100 would you recommend i go into next? im looking for more of the same except more layering and technicalities in the mids. same relaxed but linear response but im a bass head. I know the hype 2 would satisfy me but its too expensive. I dont think the em6l has enough slam?

Potentially, the best investment for gaming would be getting a pair of well fitting tips like the W1 or a similar pair with good soundstage. In my experience, the W1 improves any Iem to a very noticeable degree, particularly in terms of stage, width, separation.

the W1 creates a "false" soundstage and reduces the Imaging accuracy in my experience. cool for casual games but horrible for competitive FPS. Amazing for music on my S12 but made their poor gaming experience even worse.

Objectively speaking there's more mid bass and air on the Hype4, but with unit Variations on the Hype2 (in the bass region sometime) and also the more mid treble the Hype2 has, I see reviewers out there saying the Hype2 are V-shape and less refined in that sense. What do you think

The bass on my Hype2 hits hard, even moreso than on my IKKO OH10S. I read somewhere that the 4 is leaner than the 2 in the bass department, but who knows at this point, it sounds like it depends on the sample that you received.

I'm still in between places between the Yanyin Canon II and the Hype 4, I have the Quintet and I want a more bassy iem to round out my collection (AKA I only have the Kiwi Ears Quintet). I know it's a money sink but man this hobby is really cool for offering different tunings.

Perfect timing. Just got the DHL notification. Mine will be here on the 19th. Ordered the white model to match with my new LC7 cable; white on white. Feels odd to downgrade from the MK3, bit considering I almost never bring my kilobuck IEMs on the road to travel, this is already an upgrade in some ways. Now, if only my Scarlett Mini would ship. Just a quick observation on Fresh; he’s already operating at an extremely high level From a competitive gaming perspective. Since he’s already got the 95% locked down, it would make sense that he can subjectively gauge the performance of the IEM, because that last 5% is going to be measurable (by him). In other words, because he’s so competent at the particular title he’s running, it’s easier for him to notice the more subtle differences in the tuning and how each perform; he knows the maps, the sounds of footsteps and gunshots intimately. Since that last 5% is far more variable then the 95% he’s already developed, it’s far easier for him to gauge the performance of an IEM in that scenario than, say, me, who is cannon fodder for prepubescent CoD tryhards.

That makes sense. Although at that point it makes no difference what IEM you use because it’s 95% skill in that context. Some background, I used to play Crossfire back in the day at a semi-pro level, and I was playing in Online/LAN tournaments with Apple earbuds (the big ol old ones). If I was constantly worried about my gear inside of the game I would’ve never gotten to that level. So What I’m trying to say is, getting better at the game is what you should be prioritizing and not recommending the MK3 or the Volur lol. Anyways, enjoy your Hype 4s~

When i am testing iems for gaming i use the same few clips of the game that i recorded and then switch out the iems with it on loop play. At least that way i am controlling some of the variables but its still quite subjective. Thanks for the review.

I'm very curious of the Hype 10. I have the Prestige LTD and for me, it's the best that Thieaudio has to offer. The Monarch MK3 is close but LTD just has that magic. Being that the Hype 10, Monarch MK3 and Prestige LTD are all close in price. Obviously there is a jump between Hype 10 and Prestige LTD. I'm trying to see what Thieaudio is trying to do. Elise audio’s squig link has the Hype 10, honestly looks worse and it’s 2.5x the price. Hype 4 seems like the sweet spot in this series. For $900 you could get a truly special set like a MEST MK2 or Helios, or for a bit more a Gaea or Crimson. I think a kilobuck IEM kinda needs some special sauce to justify it’s price (like those listed above), I can’t imagine the hype 10 provides that.

Fresh I think just goes off of some Valorant deathmatch, his knowledge of sound ques in Apex, and maybe some CS2 gameplay. It's mostly just what he likes, not so much a distinct comparison of what will work the best, although it probably correlates with what will work the best for most people. I will admit though, as a gamer, the Mangird Top are very good at imaging and he agrees. I don't have any other IEMs I use on my desktop though.

@@FreshReviewsYT Hey, no issues with that man. Maybe I'm just misunderstanding you, but why recommend the Volur, MK3, or TOP when the diminishing returns is not worth it past EM6L for gaming? Isn't the point of being a reviewer to give good recommendations? I wouldn't say spending a grand just to have a 5% performance boost is worth it when they could've been fine with the EM6L. Even with music I wouldn't recommend something like the MK3 to my audience unless they have extra cash to blow and I make that very clear.

@@jayyaudioNot trying to speak for Fresh but he does have categories for different price ranges. Although it’s not as extreme, you can spend $100 on a mousepad like the XTEN Control, or $350 on a mouse like the Zaunkoenig M3K. If they are the best at something, why not consider them the best? It’s really not something anyone will look at like a necessary entry to play games. Mousepads are seriously saturated though don’t buy an XTEN haha.

Personally I believe there is no such thing as a gaming iems for a great gamer can't even somehow manage to get by with dollar store earbuds. I believe as long as the iem is decently tuned with decent imaging and soundstage it's more than enough for gaming, what really matters is your personal skills Great review btw

@@jayyaudio Most AAA games of late have good audio quality and IEMs or headphones definitely change your experience, just like how a monitor does, both in terms of size and performance. Sure, older poorly mixed games sound bad and no IEM/headgear could change that, but same could be said about music.

There is definitely a difference between iems for gaming and some are significantly better than others. I've been through many IEM's and tested them all. Most of the improvement has to do with how distant something is from you. such as with an andromeda, It was very hard to tell how far away someone was and pinpoint exactly where they were. With the monarch 3 or u6t it all felt more natural and I could distinguish exact positioning. I don't agree with fresh calling these things "wallhacks" because... it isn't. The kiwi cadenza pretty much was good enough, just not as good as something like the u6t.

@@MobuFPS It's completely different because you can't accurately and consistently test it. With music the song doesn't change when you test. It's the same track. Also, the diminishing returns for gaming is so bad that anything past EM6L is a stretch, whereas in audio even though it's still bad, it's somewhat justifiable. You will hear the difference with the "best" iem for music, but for gaming, not so much.

You have def surpassed the other iem review channels. 🔥🔥 Playing competitive Valorant, I can perform similar with budget iems, but I can for sure notice a difference when using the Xenns Top. It’s pin point accurate to tell where people are around you, even on the other side of walls, and on different elevations. I pretty much never get their placement wrong once I hear the audio queues. CSGO free for all against bots requires less precision and doesn’t have pressure clutch moments.

No flame but CSGO against bots is pretty much the easiest difficulty to play against. The free wired apple earbuds that used to come with the iPhone or budget computer speakers would work. You could win that while watching Netflix on your other monitor or playing loud music. Saying any iems/headphones will work is a casuals take and people who say that are 99% of the time not high level players.

What I am trying to say is the test is too basic and limited to need any real difference between iems. In Valorant for instance, in a 1v3 situation, you are against 3 different agents who each have different sounding footsteps by default, walking on different surfaces, and different abilities/ultimates. They're all three trying to play together to catch you off guard and outsmart you. Knowing exactly who is where, is way different than hearing a bot behind me to my left. The bot test is failing to take into account all the nuance and dynamic/diverse sounds from abilities, bomb being tapped, and multiple people coming at you from different verticality at the same time. Sometimes you have the same agents on your team and the enemy team, and you have to instantly know where the sound came from to know if it was friendly or hostile. Not to mention a sense of timing of how/when they might peak you or be holding you. The bot test neglects so many aspects of real-world competitive game play. Soundstage/imaging is felt in game. Trust me, I'd rather buy a cheap set and call it a day, but it's ignorant to say there is no difference, especially if you've been in those competitive chaotic situations.@@jayyaudio
