Tech Vision should do a story on passive solar or designing buildings with plants to reduce heat. My father back in 1980 in Wisconsin built his home with a passive solar room, basically an attached greenhouse. In the summer he keeps thick blinds down to block the sun and heat. But in winter he keeps it open during the day. He runs his furnace only once in the morning. The solar room with fans in the walls circulates the air through the house. At night he uses a heat efficient pellet stove to heat the house. His heating bill in winter is about $40/mo.. Cool idea but the EPA would kill there in two seconds. You would not believe the permit process and studies that have to be done to put a 20 foot dock on the lake. Try to put something the size of a warehouse on there and they spaz out

Floating solar is perfect whenever is dam, water storage and lakes in order to prevent water evaporation by sun and PH reduction. I highly recommend it on North pole and south pole on ice caps in order to make shade on ices. This way don’t melt as fast as before. In last 20 years, they are melting horribly which caused, causes and will caused natural disasters.

The Problem with using the space of hydro powerplants is, that they are mostly in Mountain areas which leads to less suntime cause the Mountains surrounding the reservoir block the Sunlight

Great innovation, simple : build on water, and effective , no tree shading, cooling and available in more places without disturbing the land. The Oceanix floating structures combine to make new communities with ecoarchitecture just when the world will see a billion climate refugees from the coming climate catastrophes. Of course the question always is how we can get beyond the Industrial civilizations monopoly game monetary system which requires profit and always defaults to the short term profit over people and planet ideology, and get into the Electronic Civilization values of Society and Environment and create a Universal Economy based on the Reciprocal Trade Economy ; ie Universal Income and Universal Currency in which this cutthroat economic model which fails us all regularly and creates billionaires of corruption and billions of the undeveloped in poverty, we must find a way to transition and I think it is these types of infrastructure that will still produce when the monopoly game ends ( MIT limits to growth 2040 ) because unlike oil and fiat currency the power stays on because it is produced by solar and the oil and gas will fail because it must always be purchased with ever increasing inflation and production costs.

@0:55 No, solar power does NOT need a large footprint. Just cover our existing home, business and covered parking rooftops! And switch to electric vehicles too.

no one mention corrosion? or they are gonna use plastic(which has the potential to dissolve in water)? when ppl were hyped with composite material and is used on A380, no one thought about maintenance until they need to.

Solar power is definitely the future, but you need to also provide power at night time and on cloudy day. So you need to upgrade the capability to absorb solar energy even at night ;-)

Putting this in salt water wouldn’t work. But covering freshwater reservoirs makes complete sense. They will clean in rain storms. And if they need more cleaning, pay some people! Cover lake Powell! Cover lake Mead!

All new houses should have solar installed on the roof as part of the construction. The government should cover the cost as the power can be feed back into the grid. Why cover water when roofs are everywhere.
