The paradise valley of climbing, Val Di Mellonis situated just over 2 hours north of Milan, right by the border between Italy and Switzerland.
This place has it all, huge granite walls that tower over the valley floor for multi-pitch, single pitch sport + trad climbing crags dotted throughout the valley, and some of the best variety of bouldering in the world.

Went there many many years ago in the 1980s. Did a big route called Risveglio di Kundalini and some bouldering. Absolutely gorgeous place. I still remember that trip. We hitched there from Milan where I was working.

Val di Mello is the place to be. Especially if you like un-protectable slabs, sketchy runouts and molecular footholds.

Eine Ergänzung, was das Klettern langer Route angeht (nicht das Bouldern): "Vielseitigste Kletterdestination der Welt" - das halte ich für absoluten Quatsch. Ich war im Sommer 2023 dort. Es war bestes Wetter. Es ist ziemlich einsam, man sieht (sehr) wenige Kletterer. Die Touren sind größtenteils moralisch äußerst anspruchsvoll. Wir haben die "Kundalini" gemacht. Die alten Haken , die von allen eingehängt werden, waren absoluter Müll. Nur teilweise kann man mit Friends dazu sichern. Fazit: Von wegen "vielseitig" , absolut nur für Liebhaber sicherungstechnisch äußerst anspruchsvoller Routen.

why are they advertising bouldering areas like this? in a few years these spots will be completely destroyed like magic wood....

You can already find Val Di Mello on the internet if you search for it. It’s not a hidden valley. I completely agree with your sentiment. But also consider that if all of the climbers only had a handful of crags to climb at, how quickly those areas would be destroyed vs if all the climbers we’re introducing to ALL of the climbing areas and how spread out the climbing community could be instead of all piled into one or two crags. Again, I agree with you. It is sad to see our beloved areas completely overwhelmed with new climbers but there is SO MUCH rock out there! The crowds are inevitable so I think it’s only good that we open up access to these lesser known areas. Also, go find some virgin rock near you if you truly want a wild experience. It’s out there!

Advertising Val di Mello? You musst be kidding. The biggest bouldering event in the world with up to 6000 people takes place here.... since 2004 (except for a 4 Year break). This place is everything, but a secret spot.

i still agree with you. Funny thing is: A lot of sectors in val masino/mello are already mossy again, because everyone runs to the same blocks. Same effect, as in Magic. People should spread more, and we woulnd't have any problems.
