Aston Villa wouldn't have singed him if it were not for one good season with Arsenal. Arsenal have always had an overflow of GK talents at the club. Emi is another example of that. I'm sure if he had stayed another season, he would've become no.1 by beating Leno. Its great to see Villa finally build a good team around Emi and McGinn. Only stability matters now. Again, Unai is a great coach.

Worth noting are the many times the commentators blame the attackers for not scoring vs Martinez in 1v1 or point-blank situations, implying to some degree that Emi benefited from good luck. In reality, the frequency with which this occured throughout the season suggests that much more of the credit should be heaped on Emi Martinez for his ability to anticipate the timing and placement of imminent shots on goal, covering the areas targeted by attackers before they even make contact with the ball---a sensational talent.

Spot on. I have a funny anecdote. Back in 2008-2009, my friends and I would watch Messi games and would see him pass through the rivals like if he (and the ball) were made of thin air. My friends said "well he just fast and kicks the ball forward, it's just good luck". It occured to me that good luck doesn't happen just time after time, so we went to watch him on KZbin. Time after time he made the same plays... We couldn't understand... Until we watched the videos in SLOW MOTION... We realized this dude was NUTMEGGING EVERY SINGLE RIVAL AT FULL SPEED! That's why the ball never got stuck. You can get lucky once, twice... Three times is just too much luck. But when "good luck" happens again, and again, and AGAIN... Brah, you need to start paying attention...

Five times I know. 4 for Argentina: Colombia 2021 (3 saves) Netherlands and France 2022 (2 saves / missed each match) and 2 saves against Equador 2024. 1 time for Aston Villa agains Lille for Conference league this year. Total of 11 saves/missed.
