I rescued a baby Palawan Pangolin. He was the most gentle of all my wildlife animals. They used to be so common and we didn't have so many ants and termites. Now without these sweet creatures, ants and termites are a plague to us.

One of the most endangered wild species in the world, in Indian it is protected under wildlife protection act 1972 SCHEDULE 1, as equal to Lions and tigers.. In our Gir forest India many pangolins are there but ppl are not so aware about it's nature. Though pangolins are much more safe in this forest area than anywhere else.

0:20 66 Million Years? That's at the end of the Cretaceous Period & just 1 Million Years earlier before Dinosaurs became Extinct. Like from the 3 Horned Triceratops & the Ferocious Tyrannosaurus Rex. Plus, So it is true, Pangolins are one of the many ancient modern Animals around today. Among the others were Sharks, Rays, Coelacanths, Turtles including Tortoise, Tuataras, Crocodiles, Iguanas, Monitors, Ratites, Vultures, River Dolphins, Armadillos, Anteaters & Rhinos. Do Elephants count? (Depressed Sigh) But like Elephants & Rhinos, Pangolins are being hunted for their Scales. Protect the Endangered Species! Especially those that are ancient looking.

@WhatismyLine7 жыл бұрын
chipette I know they're not related. They are last of the armored mammals though. I wasn't sure what classifies as a "scale" Some parts of the internet says an armadillos scutes are scales, even though they don't look that scaly.
@darkmerrygoround7 жыл бұрын
it's probably what those are made out of...since Armadillo's are more like leathery armor shell but for the Pangolin's, their's is made out of the same material as nails and hair.
@xTheKonkenx7 жыл бұрын
scutes are formed on the dermis and are bony with a covering of keratin. scales are formed in the epidermis and are composed solely of keratin. so they actually are two very different things and one could say they are analogous structures. I hope this helps:)

When you define "scale" it is stated that each of the small, thin horny or bony plates protecting the skin of fish and reptiles, typically overlapping one another. directly from google search and wiki. So in my opinion an Armadillo is quite "scaled" aswell...... "scute" is generally applied specifically to an Armadillo and it's anatomy, I've heard it for a crocodile aswell once, When you define "scute" it is stated: a thickened horny or bony plate on a turtle's shell or on the back of a crocodile, stegosaurus, etc.

Armadillos information..............The armour is formed by plates of dermal bone covered in relatively small, overlapping epidermal scales called "scutes", composed of bone with a covering of horn. Most species have rigid shields over the shoulders and hips, with a number of bands separated by flexible skin covering the back and flanks. Additional armour covers the top of the head, the upper parts of the limbs, and the tail. The underside of the animal is never armoured, and is simply covered with soft skin and fur.[8]
