These aren't for water based color applied with a brush. They're supposed to be dipped till the color or ink fill to its thread like edge . Then u use for ink painting or calligraphy or something delicate. Look at Asian painting of ink and colour, you'll get it.

They can be used with any liquid that works with a pen, I don’t see why one would limit themselves purely to traditional uses when there is more than one way to utilize the pen.

Just a result of slight overfilling, can happen a little more when the fluid isn’t very viscous.

Yeah, she has no idea what she's doing with the glass pen and WAY overfilled it by just straight up painting it on the pen. One you don't paint supplies onto the pen. You either dip it or use a dropped to apply the ink. The ink then sits in the grooves and allows a slow controlled drain of the ink.

i’ve been using these for about a year and a half and my only complaint i have is that the tip breaks and then become completely unusable if you’re not being careful with them other than that they are absolutely great and some also come in packs with inks for like $20usd :))

In case anyone is interested, before tiktok started calling them "glass pens" they used to be called calligraphy pens because that's exactly what they are supposed to be used for, writing. Which is also why they are so smooth, they need to be smooth enough to write in cursive, which has a lot of turns and loops.

From what I’ve heard, in Japan there had been quite the craze for these glass dip pens. You can now find them with a broad side similar to what one would use for broad pen calligraphy, and even some with a gap in the middle of that edge to write with two lines at once. A bunch of inks have been developed specifically for them as well, but they’re hard to find outside of Japan. You can use the pens with fountain pen ink that’s on the dry side, watercolor or gouache as shown here, calligraphy ink like Sumi ink, India ink, or pigmented inks (just make sure to clean thoroughly afterwards) They usually are quite smooth, but for long writing sessions aren’t very suitable since the grips usually aren’t very comfortable and some people don’t like the feeling of the glass against the paper.
