It's so good finding your channel, I grew up in redcliffe back in the 90s..McPherson st, kippa ring. Gotta love an alvey..we used to even use lures on them lol

@@Wayne.Groomes.Fishing I haven't been up there in years as I'm now in Wollongong but we used to fish heaps at Newport marina the main entrance before the western side was built and in the canal around McPherson st ... The fish we saw in there were crazy

Great content as usual Wayne, thanks for posting. I’ve just bought my first ever Alvey reel (65GT) and surf rod (12 foot). Have a trip planned to Fraser in a month to try and snag a tailor or two. Sounds like I need to get out for a couple of afternoons before then to get some Alvey casting practice.

The first ten casts will be awkward but won’t be long until you find Alvey reels easier than spin.

Hey Wayne when i was a 10 my dad and i made a 8" rod to me to use on my first trip down the pin. That rod is still in the shed and still works a treat. That was nearly 40 years ago. I have caught some very nice fish on that rod. I also have the first rod i ever owned from when i was 5. Dad got it and a rose wood reel. They become apart of you and if you take care of them they can last a life time.

Hi Wayne just wondering what you think of the Alvey adventurer series esp the 7 foot combos thanks mate loving what you are doing thanks Reg
@Wayne.Groomes.Fishing2 жыл бұрын
Haven’t used the adventure series so can’t comment. I’ve used Alvey side cast reels for more than 50 years and rate the highly. I’ve no connection with Alvey at all so would need to buy their new gear. Perhaps I should hit them up. Lol.

been missing the videos mate, happy to see you repping the alvey, would be keen to see some videos on maybe alvey maintenance and further knowledge on how to use them, different rig styles and maybe what they target, tight lines wayne, happy to see you doing good
@Wayne.Groomes.Fishing2 жыл бұрын
Thanks SkinnyD. Will put a maintenance video on the list.

I'm not Wayne but until he does a vid, maintaining an alvey is the easiest thing in the world. The centre nut comes of completly and the drum slides off. Give it a good wipe over to get rid off any sand. Then give it a light oil on the spindle and slide the drum back on. I normally used to clean mine every 6 months or so. It is the easiest reel in the world and it will last a few lifetimes. I'm sure Wayne I his vid will tell you the best grease or oil to use. Personality i just use some vasoline, have down since i was a kid. The will never give you a prob unless you are brutal with them. I'm hope I'm not out of line.
