For me Nobuo Uematsu is to video games, especially in the expression of ff, as Ennio Morricone is to the cinema. And seeing it from an electronic sound point of view I would also add Hiroshi Watanabe (Kaito). This video soundtrack is a precious shared gift.

Thanks man. Yeah I'm pretty biased towards FFVIII, it's just one of those games for me. I highly recommend it, but I'm aware it's one of the FF's that broke with tradition quite heavily so a lot of legacy fans aren't keen :)

FF8 may be divisive, but the music is not part of the criticism. When people think of Final Fantasy, they think of the music because it was composed by Nobuo Uematsu.

One thing I find interesting, having not played all of the games is that I can hear some tracks and think "that was a nice/good song" and other people might be welling up or get nostalgia flashbacks. It's amazing how a piece of music can leave an impression and Uematsu is a master.

FFVIII is my favourite, too :) I was actually singing the first piece of music's melody in my head the other day but couldn't remember what the title was. Thanks to you I've found it. 'The Landing'.

I'm also a big FF VIII fan and, despite enjoying all FFs soundtracks in their own way (they are all great!), I've always felt there's this quality about VIII's music that's different, kind of like Nobuo was composing it for a movie or some big production and not a game.

Redcoat thank you for your kind reply :) Very interesting thoughts indeed and I very enjoy FFVIII music as well. I have to say that my musical taste might different from yours. My #1 at the moment is Silence and Motion FFVIII Piano Collections. To me this arrangement is "not mainstream". Recently other youtuber did a playthrough of FFVIII for the first time. He said the music was constantly good.

It was way less analytical than that, in fact it was extremely bias and subjective... and my opinions have changed somewhat since creating it. But I still really like these tracks :)

What's funny is all these tracks have been out since forever, so I wonder how your tastes changed over time and why you link different ones now or some more than others.

@@CatzDaLegit In some cases it's just having heard a track so many times I need to take a break because it's losing the emotive appeal. Recently I've gone back to FF6 and played through it again, and the music and story just affected me more than usual, so I'm really enjoying that OST at the moment. I can't say why for sure.
