Oh goodness, this unlocked some memories for me. I was soo invested in Lionel as a kid. I had that crossing coin bank, I had multiple sets of trains from them, I even had this keychain, and while I don't remember having the Thomas version, I do remember having the little itty bitty Thomas from it for many years afterwards (actually I think I might still have it, I'm not sure).

There is also a slightly larger version of this kinda thing from Hallmark. It's pretty old but I have it and it also has a couple tiny trains that go in a circle and back and forth. It even has a tiny speed controller for direction!

I got one of these for Xmas back in 1999. I'll have to see if I can find it. It was certainly cheaper than having an O scale trainset! LOL My dad had the HO version of the explosive boxcars and missile cars (from the opening ad) from when he was a kid. I remember playing with those as a child as well. I thought they were a pain to set up (but they look very cool!)

Trouble is, that Thomas version has some shotty workings inside it. I had mine only a short time before the gear pin screwed up. (That's that long tab on that hooks to the keychain).

OH MY GOSH! I had that keychain when I was a kid and thought it was the greatest thing ever! I had it on my backpack in kindergarten, and one day, some of my stupid classmates started playing with it when I left my backpack unattended for, like, twenty seconds, and they broke it! That was like the most upset I ever got in kindergarten.

I dont know if this is true, but their is a train set even smaller (at least the trains) train set of a miniuture bulding with incredibly small trains inside the bulding (santa fe super chief and NYC Hudson freight train. And the best part is it fita in perfectly with a lionel o gauge layout. Its basically o gauge ception. A lionel o gauge layout inside a lionel gauge layout. ITS GREAT!!!

If you were able to translate the scale of that to a 1:1 scale, how fast would that dinky Santa Fe loco really go? You know, they could've easily just had the track be a perfect circle and thus the mechanism would just be a simple part that rotates. But instead, they went the extra mile and made the track an oval so the train cars have to be able to articulate around it.
