perfect timing, I was looking at the 59 and both sides have tell tale signs that the seals are both leaking. I probably should NOT flat tow that home 30 miles. Thanks !! And I think I did buy that same puller off the samba bceause getting that f n bearing off is a bear - I welded to my first one (62 bug). But we are to get smarter as time progresses.

Another great video! I noticed the rusty sludge started oozing out of the bottom of the new bearing. Where was the rusty sludge coming from? Is the residual sludge just so nominal that one need not worry about it? I'll be doing all this on my Beetle sometime in the next few months so I'll put this video and your comments in my how-to library.

It’s coming from the axle tube. I sprayed the bearing out with brake clean before putting the cap back on. Once I get a couple 100 miles on it, I’ll change the gear oil again. Only way to get the majority of the schmoo out with pulling the axle tube to wash it out. This video will NOT apply to your Super Beetle as you have an IRS rear end. I have a video on doing the rear suspension on my bay window Bus that is applicable to your Super. Good luck!

According to the Bentley manual for pre 59 cars, they don’t show the paper gasket for the carrier area. Would you use it anyway? Bentley only shows the O ring seals.

Yes.
@jeffbannon13456 ай бұрын
Thanks. What sealer do you use on the paper gasket?

Yeah, it’s stupid cold and that propane heater doesn’t do much 😂

Should you not have put plenty of bearing grease into the new bearing before sliding it onto the shaft?
@wickedwerks4 ай бұрын
No, bearing is lubricated by the transmission oil.

hammering a new bearing into place, really.
@wickedwerksАй бұрын
If it can’t handle a few light taps with a hammer, it shouldn’t be on the car.
@enoz.j3506Ай бұрын
@@wickedwerks And when they are hard to fit on the shaft ,hammer more,come on, teach the right way, or not at all. Bound to be new guys/girls doing this.

Sometimes I wouldn’t mind seeing how you clean parts and stuff.
@wickedwerks6 ай бұрын
Sometimes I do, most of the time I can’t be bothered 😂 in this case I just used simple green, hot water and a bristle brush. Hit the seal surfaces with 0000 steel wool.
So I got a question for you, sir, consider that burian. Was it under water? Why would you even consider cleaning it? Sort of throwing it in the garbage and replacing it with a new one. What the junk that was inside there, the lack of a proper lubricant. Those barren minds will consider them shot. The garbage thrum away put new ones in. They're really inexpensive. That thing was running around with basically water, dirty water in there. Don't reuse that my friend

Great video. I just picked up a 1960 VW and it’s making a weird sound from the rear. I found this video on KZbin and it’s exactly what mines is doing kzbin.infojDOTO4ipL8U?si=Uq1l8wZVukgbRqu9 Is that the same thing yours was doing? Thanks
