matt borne heel doink was incredible. it was one of those "only guy could ever make this work and he's currently the one in the role" gimmicks.
@mattjones55314 жыл бұрын
Matt Borne knew his in-ring psychology, i believe he once told Mick Foley that a good Heel doesn't do things such as eye gauges and low blows out of desperation but because he enjoys doing them, his mannerisms, his demeanor everything he brought to the Doink character was gold, you'd believe he could and would actually want to hurt you. Matt Borne was truly often imitated but never duplicated when it came to playing Doink the Clown.

Borne getting the ax is 100% why they turned Doink face the character was still over so it'd be a waste to just remove him but nobody could heel Doink like him so they had to hope a face turn could work and sadly the character is tainted cause that was equally shit as a post Borne heel Doink

The problem with The Miz's face turn is that they took away his greatest weapon, the microphone. Heel Miz is forever the the mic getting promo time to help build feuds but when he is a babyface, he never gets that chance. The most they let him down was host Miz TV to build OTHER people's feuds.

The buildup was there all he had to do was for the next night shoot a promo in the ring where he admits that he fucked up and chose his career over his brothers. In the process, that decision cost him his title, his health, and most of all his best friends. Yeah, that kane storyline was a weird time. The reason lita was the heel was she and edge had a fling behind matt hardy's back and when the internet finds out what u did they'll never let it go and matt got fired because of it and fans were really pissed so by proxy kane was matt. So yeah kane was the good guy after all that.

The Miz's face turn in the mid 10s was awful. Not the face run itself - him using his arrogance and his bad attitude to stand up to heels was really cool, but it was the setup: there were actually loads of legitimately heroic-looking moments and brief flashes of actual gallantry earlier that year (his MITB leg injury followed by him wrestling clean the following night to reach the final of that tournament being a great example) that would've been an amazing set up for that but they flat out did not use any of it; just had him disappear for a little while, come back, squash Otunga and be all "guess I'm a good guy now!" And this is why I can't watch wrestling any more, because it makes me say shit like this and wonder what the point is in watching if all I have left is "well they should've done this."

I personally think Seth Rollins Face run really took a positive turn during his "Work horse" run. Working nearly an hour in some matches and really burned out after he won the universal title. Mainly due to WWE presenting him as the always smiling and joking face that some just can't get behind. Seth rollins getting the baby face momentum that lead him to a rumble win was a highlight for me from his entire run.

Seth had the same problem Shawn Michaels had in 1996 when he won the world title. Everyone that Seth could’ve feuded with that had credibility was either gone from Raw or the company (Roman, Ambrose), injured (AJ), already feuding with someone else (Owens, Joe) or on hiatus (Brock) leaving him with scraps in the form of the human wet blanket of heat known as Corbin

Lacey Evans is a strange case. If you know her backstory, it would sound readymade to be a babyface but WWE can never seem to capture that. I will say Del Rio was a more likeable babyface in Lucha Underground. He brought more of a fire when he was there.
@philwill01232 жыл бұрын
Problem is, Charlotte flair a natural heel, Sasha banks is a heel. Bayley is a heel. Becky is a great tween. But WWE have become obsessed with trying to make Charlotte a face champion for years, so everyone else has to be a heel. They forced Becky to be a heel, but she's too well liked. About 70% of the womens roster are heels, 20% are face who are bayley 1.0 imitations, and the other 10% have "quirky" gimmicks. As you said, Lacey would be the next patriot good guy. But whoever came up with the southern belle gimmick should be shot. Because it limits Lacey. And her finisher is rubbish

I think Erich Rowan's face turn was underrated. He was like a modern day version of Kane during his first face turn, where he was a misunderstood and mistreated outcast. I also think Charlotte Flair as a face doesn't make sense, because she is naturally a heel. I agree with the last entry, I hated how they turned Kane face and made Lita look like the villain afterwards. After Lita "betrayed" Kane, Lita was then stalked by Kane which is a disturbing real life mirror where women who leave abusive partners are then stalked by them. It's as if the creative staff comprised of ex-Taliban members and abusive husband who just lost their wives.

Austin's face turn in 2001 was worse than his heel turn. "Kane the good guy rapist" is one of the funniest things ever said. The way I read stuff like this when I was a kid and watching WWE every episode was that once a storyline ends and a new status quo is set they don't want you to think about the old storyline anymore unless they specifically bring it up in the new storyline. So once Kane and took Lita and she was "pregnant" and they moved on to the story with Snitzky the whole issue of how they got together and how she got pregnant didnt count anymore because that was from the old story.

Exactly. The thing with Seth Rollins is that the moment he returned from his injury, he should have been a babyface but of course WWE's logic was then they would have to turn Roman heel even if the had the chance to double turn at MITB so they had him he turn face from Triple H betrayal.
@THENAMEISQUICKMAN4 жыл бұрын
I think Mox's WWE heel turn would make it on a revised "worst heel turns in wrestling" list. It should've been played as Dean/Mox waiting for the perfect opportunity and letting Seth build it all up for years after Seth's betrayal just to tear it all away when it would hurt the most so Seth would feel the pain Mox felt all those years ago. Instead it just turned out to be generic as all hell and never clicked at all. So yes, basically, Mox should've ended up being Akechi from Persona 5. Making a person who previously treated you like garbage think you're on their side only to rip it all away when it would hurt the most.

I'm still convinced to this day that if Randy Orton didn't get buried by Triple H one month after becoming the youngest world champion in WWE history, he could have been way bigger than Cena in terms of GOAT status. The guy's got everything, the look, the character, the personality and also the pure talent being a 3rd generation wrestler that could have made him the next The Rock for WWE. The fact that he's aging like fine wine right now being the most compelling superstar 18 years after he debuted only makes the case for me, if they didn't waste his first real push we could be talking about The Best Ever today when referring to Orton
