Great video Tom! The more I hear the more I’m convinced that Hemingway isn’t really for me lol. I know for a fact my lowest rated was American Psycho.

I agree with your opinion on Circe. I was very disappointed in it as well

Yaaaa so glad you did this! I love the extra bits you included at the end. I had no idea Turn of the Screw was rated so low, I've always been interested in that one (I loved Haunting of Bly Manor) but I guess I can skip it. You know I find it really interesting that a lot of classics have a tendency to end up with lower ratings. There's probably a good conversation to be had about that...

My girlfriend said the show was better than the book. I wonder if classics get rated lower because so many people are forced to read them when they are not ready

@@TomOrange That's what I am thinking too. I also think expectation plays a lot into it. Like "this book has survived 100 years, it must be amazing" and then reading it only to be let down, not factoring in the context of the time in which the book was written. That happens with Shirley Jackson's Haunting of Hill House a lot. People get bored because the house isn't haunted enough for them lol

Looks like a fun video to make. I don't deal much with Goodreads, probably because I'm not a fan of star ratings. But I certainly enjoyed listening to you on this. Happy reading, everyone.

Cool vid! I had to read Turn of the Screw for 12th grade English and it was a total bore…very much a thing of its time. Sounds like I need to check out Snow Country after just loving Shogun so much. And oh man I hope I like Circe much more than you did when I get to it!

Let me know if you end up reading it! I’m sure you will like it more than me. I am one of the few who do not like. Thought Matt also did not like it

I struggle with many of Hemingway's reads. Just an author's work that never clicked with me, however, I also read Snow Country which I highly enjoyed. Go figure. - Cheers Tom!

Hemingway is a little like McCarthy for me. Some really high highs and then some not so good. You are the only other person I know who has read Snow Country! Glad to hear you also enjoyed it!
