These buffets usually increase the range in the evenings, but what worries me is that at opening time the food was cold! Are they taking the prepared dishes out of the chillers and relying on the heated serving pans to slowly bring them to temperature - a recipe for food poisoning soup?

The naan was all right The mousse you'd not hurry, But overall, it was sh*ite. The portions were skimpy; The sauces were cold. Should have gone for a Wimpy, But you've done that, we're told. The squid was all rubbery, And the rice looked anaemic. Fifteen quid? That's skulduggery! Hope your heart's not ischaemic. I have to reiterate - You really were rooked. Im a professional restaurant assessor and have enjoyed watching the channel from day one. I can see that Gary's standards have risen since the early reviews and it resonates massively. Your standards are formed by experiences, and you compare anything you eat with the very best that you've had of that same food type, sometimes consciously, but often not. It would be interesting to see what Gary thinks of the places he visited at the start of the channel, and if he gives them the same scores after visiting a lot of places in a small timescale, including a few casual starred places.

Hi Gary, the food reminded me of some cheap all-inclusive holidays I went on when my children were young. The reality is that it's not safe to serve food that's not been reheated properly. I'm fairly sure that you were eating the previous day's leftovers. As someone else already commented, these multi-ethnic restaurants rarely serve good food - in my opinion at least

Poor Gary! Thanks for being brave and honest. From past experience, a lot of these buffet dives (especially the ones that do multiple different cuisines) are very borderline. I am often left wondering what "meat" is actually contained in some of the dishes. Whatever it is, it's bloody cheap, but not necessarily cheerful. One wonders if the local cat population has recently inexplicably depleted?

Yes, daytime multi cuisine buffets are usually bland. It would be worth saying something to the staff there about the cold food because they might have given you a part refund. Also, reviewing how the staff dealt with your complaint would have made it even more interesting.

Can you imagine a good eatery in the O2 or any other concert hall? The skill is in eating somewhere tasty en route to the gig. 2 exceptions though. A stunning goulash at the wonderful Union Chapel and the pasta at the Royal Albert Hall was pretty decent.

Not too harsh for sure! The trouble with buffet style restaurants is the catch all range of cooking styles, none of which is made with any degree of care or knowledge. I would avoid all buffet restaurants as a matter of course. Much as I would avoid restaurants with a book for a menu. Less is more as the old adage says!

Don't wait until you are inside the O2 to eat because the food choice is limited and its a rip off. Eat before you park at the O2 would be my advice.

😂 I went to a gathering here for a family members birthday the food is bad reminds me of a proper cheap all inclusive hotel too much choice and nothing special,imo better off with places that specialise in certain cuisines.

My strategy for selecting items from a buffet are these: 1) Know what your caloric goal is. If you’ll regret later getting stuffed, then select salads and vegetable dishes first. The vegetables will make you feel a bit full. 2) Fall back on your past experiences of buffets. If certain items are always good at a buffet, then take these before trying something unfamiliar or that is best only if it came straight from the kitchen. You want a balance of things that are reliably good and the unfamiliar. 3) Take a moment to gauge how you’re feeling. Consider how full you’re getting, and if you’ll soon be too full to sample a dish that particularly appeals to you. 4) Don’t overlook the pickles and chutneys on offer. Buffet food can be underspiced since the food needs to be enjoyable to children. A good pickle can make otherwise bland food enjoyable. 5) Don’t dwell on the dishes that didn’t appeal to you. Just focus on what you enjoyed. You may have just come on an off day.
