The Worst Cartoon Network Take I've Ever Seen

For once, Cartoon Network made a good business decision that wasn't destructive and also satisfied fans at the same time. However, a handful of people chronically online on Twitter didn't take this lightly and accused CN of pandering to millennials and nostalgia. To make matters worse, they also said Nickelodeon's schedule was better, when that's obviously not true. CN stands out for airing older shows ALONGSIDE the new shows, unlike the competition. Oh and not to mention, statistically most cable viewers are adults.
I counter their claims by providing reasoning to why airing ended shows can benefit the network and that airing shows that have long ended is nothing new if you've watched the channel for the past two decades. Although I agree CN is in desperate need of new programming, , Cartoon Network's mission is to broadcast cartoons for all ages and demographics throughout the years. The past brought the channel to where it is now with a massive library of shows!

If people would remember correctly, Cartoon Network ORIGINALLY started out as a place that showed 24 hours of content that ended during our parents and grandparents time. This also includes shows that aired during the 1980s like Thundaar or Smurfs. So, the idea of playing shows that ended long ago doesn't feel like THAT bad of an idea. It certainly beats only having six or seven shows playing in bomb formats every single day

Cartoon Network has not once reran any episodes of _Regular Show_ from season 8 since the show ended, with the exception of "Terror Tales of the Park VI" and "Christmas in Space" for Halloween and Christmas. But since they are currently airing all of the episodes in order, we may actually see it happen.

True nothing but SpongeBob, The Loud House, Rock, Paper, Scissors, (don't get me wrong but it is the new best nicktoon Nick's gotten since TMNT 2012), TMNT and Dora, I know the schedule is mainly movies since October 2020 thanks to the worst scheduler of Nickelodeon, John Flannery and Idk what Brian Robbins is doing with Nickelodeon/Paramount, eventually if Paramount goes bankrupt, Nick will probably be shut down with it and will be just CN and Disney left. The one thing about Modern Nick that sucks is their current Nick at Nite lineup it only airs Friends, Mom and Mike and Molly it got crap ever since Full House and George Lopez left the lineup back in 2020 and 2021.(I am hoping for either Nick at Nite to shut down and just run Nick all Night long simliar to what CN did in 1992-2008 or Rebrand Nick at Nite to TV Land or even bring back NickRewind for the overnight hours)Reason why they air so much SpongeBob because when the show got so popular around its 3rd season, started winning KCAs every year, became the mascot of Nickelodeon since 2009, and has bunch of merchandise, is where they started airing so much SpongeBob that's why this happened in 2024. I know the Nicktoons as a whole went downhill after TMNT 2012. While they still had good live action shows around 2013-2015 (e.g The Thudermans and Henry Danger and that was kinda it after that) Rise of TMNT tho was alright not good as TMNT 2012, late 2019 is when I stopped watching Nick when the Casagrandes premiered, I didn't watch CN again till late 2022, I first stopped watching CN when Gumball ended til they started bringing back old shows is when I started watching CN again.

The worst take on CN in my opinion is how Boomerang continues to get less viewers on average, despite its tendency to return to its genesis era scheduling-wise, compared to Nicktoons. I just don't get it. I don't understand how Boomerang, the channel that is currently having a renaissance in their scheduling right now, is doing way worse in Nielsen viewership compared to Nicktoons, which doesn't even have classics on its schedule anymore and tends to air a massive amount of SpongeBob similar to how TeenNick aired a massive amount of Henry Danger during Summer and Fall of 2023. This reality feels illogical in my eyes.

Im glad Cartoon Network has been airing older shows. I do have an idea, maybe have some of the early 2000s shows air on Checkered Past and the 2010s cartoons can air on Cartoon Network with the new original content. Either way like I said its great seeing Cartoon Network acknowledge their old shows and is part of the reason they are beating Nickelodeon. I love SpongeBob its one of my all time favorite shows but Nickelodeon should not be airing it so much and should do the same thing as Cartoon Network and air old and current shows. In Nickelodeon's case Nick@Nite doesnt start until 9PM so they could make this work. Cartoon Network is doing just fine with it and it ends at 5PM having Adult Swim come on.

Not going to lie but Nickelodeon and Disney are making new shows for their channels which is good funnily enough though but the Nick jr channel actually airs more variety than Nickelodeon it’s 60% paw patrol which includes the spinoff rubble and crew I honestly don’t mind paw patrol as I do like the show but the spinoff is really bad and it’s because it’s made by a different studio and then it’s 20% bubble gubbies then 20% to 30% Dora the explorer and the rest is shows like Peppa Pig and Gabby’s doll house I hope Nick will do the same I guess that the Nick jr channel is either run by someone else than Nickelodeon or it’s just doing better than Nickelodeon but who knows
