Can't even feel bad for them. The markup bars charge on alcohol is downright criminal, if you can't make a profit you deserve to fail.

If the customer throws the first punch and you end up delivering an assbeating, that's another matter and you can reasonably argue self-defense.

All it takes is one inspector coming in for a surprise look around, they can watch your surveillance tapes, they can not announce themselves and just watch you if you're visible to the public for a little bit, people get away with a lot and can become complacent due to a lack of observance placed on them but all it takes is one slip up and for at least a year you'll have people crawling over your restaurant like ants before things go back to normal.

The regulatory body known as the health dept only devotes a fraction of their time with inspection and compliance at restaurants as it’s expected for personnel to have food service certifications. At least there’s a regulatory body.

Restaurant owner in Virginia and believe it or not inspectors worry more about holding temperatures, cooler temps and knowing what and how to deal with food borne illness. Cleanliness is last on the list. You can have a filthy restaurant but if temps, storage procedures are followed then the restaurant is good to go. Be vigilant in choosing were you eat especially if you have food allergies as most restaurants don't have proper training even in the fanciest of establishments.

I'm in the US and we get inspected once a year randomly. We know around the time they come but we never know exactly when. Well at least in MN that's how it works. Although I worked at a little caesars in a kmart and I doubt we ever got inspected. They check our temps and how we handle food. They give me a list of things to fix, usually where I work it's small stuff like clean your can opener or don't let the handle of the scoop lay in the flour.

I have always taught my teams to check the public bathrooms first, when inspecting their employee's work. If the guests see dirt & other things (yuck), what impression will they have of our guestrooms or our food before they even see them or try them? Their experience will be spoiled. Before I eat in any restaurant, I check the restroom. If it's dirty, I leave. If they let me see THAT, what must their kitchen look like?!

I used to work in a training kitchen at a cooking school for a program for about 4-6 months and one student left a pot of old grease drippings under a table by accident overnight, And the entire kitchen smelt like Nasty hot vomit when we walked in the next morning. 🤮 Took us half an hour to air out the whole place before we even started prep training cause nobody could stand it. Now image an entire kitchen covered in grease, like the ones in these kitchens there visiting, And the SMELL they had to breathe in while opening those double doors. Disgusting

7:27 I worked in restaurant for about 10yrs. Started as expo, learned front of house, learned the kitchen, became a manager. It isn't for everyone but my thought process was simple: "If I'm going to be spending 40+ hrs every week in this place anyway, I'm going to learn as much as possible and work harder than everyone else because I want to maximize my $$$." It just amazes me that all of these people are content with half assing their effort and losing money.
